Cruz: Trump won't be GOP nominee
Politico ^ | 10/09/2015 | Nick Gass

Donald Trump will not be the Republican nominee for president, Ted Cruz said Thursday, claiming that a majority of the Manhattan real-estate mogul's supporters would end up voting for him instead.

Cruz was asked whether he believed he could beat Trump based on his principles, in an interview with WABC's Rita Cosby that will air on Sunday. "I think that's right. I think in time I don't believe Donald is going to be the nominee and I think in time the lion’s share of his supporters end up with us," the freshman senator predicted. "And I think the reason is what I was just saying, that if you look to the records of all the Republican candidates there's a big difference between my record and that of everyone else if you ask, who has stood up to Washington?

He continued: "Who's taken on not just Democrats, but taken on leaders in their own party? Republican leadership, whether was leading the fight to stop Obamacare? Whether it was leading the fight to stop executive amnesty? Or actually, just going back to last week. You know at the last Republican debate in California, every Republican candidate stood up there and said, 'we need to defund Planned Parenthood.' But last week, when we had an epic drag down fight in Washington, not one of them showed up."

Cruz, who has declined to criticize Trump, unlike some of his GOP presidential rivals, reiterated that he is "glad" he is in the race and that his candidacy has reflected favorably on his own positions.

So you think all this effort Trump is making, to visit so many states, give so many speeches, employing operatives in every state (latest in Illinois!), losing business contracts such as Macy’s, and expose himself to criminal Mexican drug smugglers is just for kicks?

Can we share whatever you are smoking? Must be pretty good!

The ones that RINOs/liberals say can’t win the general election are the ones that can. The ones they say can win, aka Jeb Bush/Kasich/Christie, don’t stand a chance at beating any democrat. Why vote for a democrat-lite when you can have the real thing. That’s why McAmesty and Romney lost.

Agree with you that the third debate is preferable...I hope your advice didn’t go unheeded.

If Trump drops out (he won’t) Bush will crush all opponents, including Cruz, and Cruz will remain the most unpopular senator among his colleagues in senate.

I’m saying that hateful, immature charaterizations such as “celebutard” don’t incline people to your candidate. They do just the opposite.

Signs of desperation from Cruz, who is staying in low single digits lately in polls. It is the old rule in politics...no matter how good you are, if you do not resonate with voters, you have no chance.

You might want to take a look at Senator Cruz’s behavior as a guide for your own. Shooting at the other horses in the race will not make your horse run faster.

Slandering the other candidates will not gain any votes for your choice. Make the case FOR you candidate if you want to win. Your current tactics will only piss off people who might otherwise consider voting FOR your choice.

Cruz is not resonating with voters, not because he is not a good conservative, but because he does not possess the magnetic personality of Trump. Some people are born with it, and others are not. I know, reality sucks for you.

Good for Ted. I like it that he knows how to fight. He is a “bomb-thrower” who is a solid conservative.

I’d rather see Cruz as the nominee than the RINO Trump.

Signs of desperation from Cruz

Oh please! Don't fall for the Junk media tactics. What was Cruz suppose to say "Yes, Trump is sure to be the nominee, I don't know why the rest of us are running".

This is more of the usual "get the Conservatives fighting among themselves to keep them divided" media tactics of the GOPe Media used so effectively in 2008 and 2012. Don't be foolish enough to fall for it.

If you want to win, stick to making he case FOR your candidate and don't waste time attacking the also ran.

Put yourself in his shoes. First primary in Iowa is approaching fast, just a dozen weeks away. You are polling 5-6%. Trump is polling CONTINUOUSLY between 22-32%. If you really want the nomination, can you stay silent much longer?

OK, desperation is a bit strong word, but what do you call it when time is getting short to take action?

I have to agree Cruz played this badly.

The response should be “look I am not going to play this game of yours. I am here to talk about my ideas and qualification, not create some fake drama for you to exploit by trash talking any of the other candidates.”

I just don’t even get why big labor protectionists like you are even supposed to be a Republican constituency? Are you in the AFL-CIO? Do you really vote Republican ever?

Not every Republican feels it is his/her duty to put the screws to all blue collar workers for the benefit of his pocketbook...

To me, it seems Cruz wants to fix the 'Party' while Trump wants to fix the Country...
