Powerful Republican Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Janesville) stood firm on Thursday in his desire not to become the next Speaker of the House.
Ryan, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, issued a statement after House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy shocked the GOP when he abruptly ended his candidacy to replace Speaker John Boehner.
"While I am grateful for the encouragement I've received, I will not be a candidate," Ryan said. "I continue to believe I can best serve the country and this (Republican) conference as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee."
CNN reported McCarthy was with his wife and children at the closed-door meeting of Republicans selecting the nominee, when he announced his decision.

McCarthy’s withdrawal is following the letter asking people with skeletons not to run for speaker. It will be interesting to see if McCarthy has been playing “hanky-panky” with a fellow congresswoman?

The RINOs & GOPe are really looking desperate.

I wonder, for entertainment value if nothing else, if the GOPe were to offer Trump the Speakership in trade for leaving the Presidential race, would he take the deal.

CNN reported McCarthy was with his wife and children at the closed-door meeting of Republicans selecting the nominee, when he announced his decision. I'll bet the lot of them were shocked when he was told to stand down for being an embarrassment to the GOP over his Benghazi statements.
After all, saying stupid things which damages the GOP brand is just supposed to be resume enhancement with the GOPe.

If I were in the House I would rise to nominate the Junior Senator from the Great State of Texas, Ted Cruz.
He could be Speaker until he was elected President. Let em sweat!

That is what I just learned, if true it is one more instance of illicit copulation at taxpayer expense. It seems that every vice known to man pervades Congress.

Oops: Paul Ryan (sorry Rand Paul) What is the consensus on Ryan? Not actually sure...

Thank God. Ryan is just like McCarthy. Remember the young guns? McCarthy, Cantor and Ryan. I always called them the three RINO’s. :-)

You don't have to be a member of the House to be the Speaker of the House.
If Cruz were selected, it would detract from his ability to run for President AND be an effective Senator. That's three full time jobs.
