Got Incompetence? The Federal Gov't Has Misled Public About Milk For Decades
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 10/7/2015 | John Merline

If you look up "whole milk" in the government's official Dietary Guidelines, it states pretty definitively that people should only drink skim or 1% milk. "If you currently drink whole milk," it says, "gradually switch to lower fat versions."

This is the same advice the government has been issuing for many years. And it's wrong

Standard resources, including technical chemistry ones, list whole milk as less than 4% total fat. The percent of total calories in milk that come from the fat is higher.

Is my milk mislabled? It says 12 %

Seems like it may be a labeling error. Fat at 12% would be half-and-half, not whole milk.

And calories from fat in whole milk would be around 50%, not 12%.

If you drink the coffee first, you don’t do that...

Milk companies add stuff to skim because it gets lost to the creamier products of which it is a byproduct. Water down whole milk, say to half, and you still have half the good stuff in every glass.

I get my ‘milk fats’ from ice cream (I’m an icereamaholic) and vanilla yogurt on cereal (honey bunches with almond slivers). I’m a nicer person when I get my daily ice cream fix ...

***so my mother couldn’t skim it for the cream. ***

YAY! Someone who remembers what REAL MILK used to look like, with the cream on top, in a glass bottle!

We got ours from a cow.

I stopped believing anything the government said about food decades ago. People with an agenda get in charge and they push their agenda.

Come to think of it, I don’t believe anything said by a government employee or politician either. Nothing. If they said it was raining I’d have to check myself.

Ditto!!

Must be from a Jersey Cow. We found they always gave the most cream in their milk. AND IT WAS GOOD TOO!

I don’t take my dietary advice from the government. Government employees are some of the dumbest among us so why would we listen to them for anything? They are wrong so often about so much as to be retarded jokes. Always have been.

The whole chocolate milk I have is labeled 13%. I don’t have any Half & Half on hand but if I remember correctly, it’s labeled 23%..

It sounds as if the dairy industry may be pulling the same stunt as small engine manufactures did in the past, vastly over stating horse power ratings for their products. A 6 h.p. engine being actually a 2.5 h.p.

They were stopped by the fed. gov. and now just state the size of their engines in cubic centimeters.

They should've shot Wickard and sent Filburn to Congress.

Depends on the breed of cow. Jersey and Guernsey are highest at 5% (The best newly-freshened well-fed Jersey actually tops that to past 7%) and Holstein the lowest at av. 3.25%

Also depends on the individual cow and its feed, and probably on its date of lactation.

Ya could look it up! (LINK)

I was told to drink 1% milk several years ago and at first it tasted terrible. After several years of drinking it, it still tasted terrible. Cut down down on my eating cereal....

I now drink whole milk and it is all good : )

Whole milk has 3.5% milk fat
2% milk has 2% milk fat

The government told me once that if I continued to try to quit smoking instead of giving up, I stood a much better chance of quitting smoking.

Government is so smart...I tell you what...
