Joe Biden has been making his 2016 deliberations all about his late son since August. Aug. 1, to be exact — the day renowned Hillary Clinton-critic Maureen Dowd published a column that marked a turning point in the presidential speculation.

My mother had breast cancer which metastasized into a brain tumor. A month before she died she started hallucinating and mixing life stories up......she thought my brother was my dad who had just come home from Korea. A little over 2 weeks before she passed she shut down and never uttered another word. A week before she passed she may as well have been in a coma. She was essentially gone but the body hadn’t shut down yet.
