Donald Trump does not trust Russian President Vladimir Putin, but he is supportive of one thing Putin is doing on the world stage.
During an interview with "Meet The Press" Sunday, Trump told moderator Chuck Todd that he supports Putin going out and "bombing the hell" out of the Islamic State in Syria, despite that they are doing so to support Syrian President Bashir al-Assad.
"I like that Putin is bombing the hell out of ISIS, and it's going to be ISIS. I'll tell you why Putin has to get rid of ISIS because Putin doesn't want ISIS coming into Russia," said Trump, who leads the Washington Examiner's latest power rankings.
However, Trump made it clear that he does not trust the Russian president when pressed by the host.
"I don't trust him," Trump said. "I don't trust him at all other than we both got very good ratings the other night on '60 Minutes' 'cause it was with me and Putin. Can you believe this? So I don't know. Did I get the ratings or did he?"
"It's not a question of trust," Trump said. "We've spent now we've spent $2 trillion in Iraq, probably $1 trillion in Afghanistan. We're in there we're destroying our country. We owe $19 trillion, we're bogged down. Russia was bogged down in Afghanistan, meaning the Soviet Union. It broke up the Soviet Union. They're going to get bogged down, you watch."
"I would sit back and lets see what's going on," Trump said. "I'm not justifying Putin, but you watch he'll get bogged down there. He'll be there, he'll spend a fortune, he'll be begging to get out."
He bought Putins excuse.
You have a problem with Putin bombing jihadists? Did you also have a problem with Russia bombing Hitler?
So you are saying you are okay with "a path to citzenship" as long as they say it nicely?
And some on here say Trump is shallow.
“Putin is allied with every bad-guy muslim government and group that threatens the West”
Wronng. I guess you don’t know about the Muslim problem he has to deal with in Chechnya — and the brutal means he has employed to deal with it. Russia faces a much more immediate Muslim terrorist threat than we do, and Putin’s political career in Russia has been built on his tough response to the Muslim terrorists.
I have no doubt that Putin will deal with a muslim threat to Russia.
Muslim threat to Europe and America?
No.
I agree with you on Trump. There are some bizarre things that come out of his mouth at times.
I also agree on Rubio but he blew it earlier on immigration. If not for this one issue, I believe I would be supporting him.
Ted is a good and brilliant man but I don’t believe he’ll gain much traction in this race.
The Russian media is getting the news out about the Russian air force bombing runs in Syria with photos of their brave pilots and I imagine it’s playing well overseas.
“Putin has no problem with ISIS taking Iraq, Saudi, Jordan, Israel and Lebanon.”
What do you base that statement on?
“I have no doubt that Putin will deal with a muslim threat to Russia.
Muslim threat to Europe and America?
No.”
As if they could be divided up. It’s all one big threat. Jihadis moving from one country to another. And Putin knows that. The guys who bombed the Boston Marathon were from Chechnya, right? And Putin tried to warn Obama about them.
Seems like we understood Russians concerns and have not flown at all since being warned.
If so, how the hell can we now go in and establish no fly zones?
Russia has been allied with Syria for nearly 40 years. Being buddies with Syria is nothing new for Russia.
??
Putin is allied with every bad-guy muslim government and group that threatens the West. Hes not there to decrease the threat against Europe and the U.S. Just the opposite.
There's two scams out there...One is Putin's...The other is Obama's...You must be buying into Obama's scam...
We have a good idea what happens if Russia takes out Obama's ISIS and Al Qaeda and Assad stays in power...So tells us, what happens if Obama's terrorists take out Assad and take over Syria...
“to return and complain when things in the ME do not go in the US’ direction.”
Yeah, the ME is headed in the right direction for the US if you hate America.
That's a bad analogy, because of who "Hitler" is in this analogy.
But it should give a lesson in how any alliance with Russia is a deal with the devil and not to be take at face value - certainly not believing Putin's public "intentions." So the analogy is worth some lessons.
Russia was an ally of Hitler until he attacked them. And as a result:
Russia became as big an existential threat to the West.
But your analogy is flawed, there's a better one. The Nazi Country is Iran. Iran's ally is Syria. Russia's allies are Iran and Syria. That's who Russia's military intervention is designed to help.
So it would be more correct to ask: "You have a problem with Russia fighting Hitler's battles?
The problem I have is those, particularly presidential candidates who don't see this.
We’re pretty much screwed either way, making the Putin cheerleaders on this forum rather, ahem, cheery.
You’re basically asking: what if something bad happens or something bad happens.
Third question: Whatever happened to NATO.
lol....
There aren't any moderate forces there...It's the same Al Qaeda/Muzlim Brotherhood that Obama put in Tunisia and Libya...The same terrorists who took over Egypt and took out our ally Mubarak...The same group who is killing Christians in Syria...The same bunch who rips out the beating hearts of Syrians and eats them and posts the video on tv...
I don’t see Russia as the enemy many here do. Sure, they want to be a player on the world stage, and I think Trump is the one who can sit down with the Russians and work out a way for both of us to get what we want from each other.
Beslan was part of the Chechen War (s) - a threat to Russia, not the West.
No they aren't...Assad has been protecting the Christians in Syria...Obama doesn't back Christians, anywhere...
