Looks like America will run a little less on Dunkin’.

Dunkin’ Brands, the parent company of Dunkin’ Donuts and the Baskin-Robbins ice cream chain, announced Thursday that one of its franchisees it will be shutting 100 stores across the country in the next 15 months, reports Forbes.

[....]

Dunkin’ said a spike in the cost of eggs due to the recent avian flu outbreak in the U.S. was a reason along with concerns with the rise in minimum wage laws in cities across the country. Last month, New York became the first state to raise the minimum wage for fast-food workers to $15 an hour.

Vinnie, vinnnie, vinnie....... toaster oven? come on

the correct, that is the approved southern way to deal with the old Krispie Cremes, or even those fresh from the box, is to grill them

in the skillet, melt a generous slab of butter. when melted, add the donuts. When ready, turn over and mash flat or nearly flat. heat until the glaze has melted and the surface is hard but not burned.

remove from the skillet being careful not to burn your hands or fingers with the melted, stringy glaze residue

do not eat too soon, the hot glaze will burn your mouth

Gas station convenience stores with kitchens are putting traditional fast food and even pizza places out of business. And gas c-stores are allowed in neighborhoods that would never allow a Dunkin’ or McDonald’s.

$3.99 for a dozen eggs. Contents shrinking, prices rising.

...concerns with the rise in minimum wage laws in cities across the country...

The US government should have ZERO impact on wages - as it's an issue between the employer and employee.

Ordered the worst grilled cheese sandwich ever from DD a while back (was in a hurry doing errands)l Haven’t been back since.

I mean, how do you screw up a grilled cheese?

Dunkin’ Donuts used to be my favorite (this was before I had access to Krispy Kreme). Then one day I had a shriveled, undersized, cardboardy French Cruller. I figured I had an off batch.

Only a while ago did I find out what happened. DD stopped making the doughnuts in the shops. The old commercials with that guy getting up at 4AM “Time to make the doughnuts” is no longer applicable. The doughnuts are made in a factory and shipped out frozen. The jelly doughnuts are still passable, but French Crullers absolutely die under those conditions.

DD decided to cut costs and make their money on coffee, not doughnuts. Their coffee is okay, but so is the coffee at the Road Ranger gas station.

Great. Now we’ll be down to 5,728 of them here in NJ.

Have some 1-3 day old Krispy Kreme donuts you were going to toss?

One to three day old Krispy Kremes? How does THAT happen?

Interesting article.

BTW, DD has historically been nasty to its franchise operators. Rockford, IL lost all three years ago because of a capricious change in terms.

re: "home-made"

Sometimes they advertise "homestyle". Now that ingredients have to be available, one can see how misleading that label is.

I noticed a new DD in my town this spring and was excited to have a plain, no frills donut to dink in my coffee. I was absolutely livid when that donut cost OVER a dollar before taxes, was a third the size they used to be, and was obviously boxed instead of fresh. I haven’t been back.

Recently, a friend of mine stopped at a local, family owned donut shop to treat me to one of theirs. Theirs boasts of natural ingresients, no meat based fats, and they bake them as opposed to frying them. It was absolutely delicious!

Yes, convenience stores are making fast work of the donut industry when you dan purchase one twice the size/weight for 50 cents rather than over a dollar each, and the store donuts are fresh.

Yestersay, DD was offering a free cup of coffee, but the parking lot was empty as it always is.

This is the beauty of capitolism. You either compete to be above the rest, or you go down the tubes.

It might have been delicious, but it wasn't a doughnut.

I don't think that has actually been implemented yet. I think the bill is still awaiting Cuomo's signature. But I could be wrong.

‘’Donut tip..
Have some 1-3 day old Krispy Kreme donuts you were going to toss?
Stick them in the toaster oven. Toast til blackened on top. Eat w/ knife and fork. Almost better than fresh.’’

No, Dahling. That’s not how you do it. A little butter (butter, not margarine) in a skillet. Turn the burner up according to how fast you want your donuts. When the butter starts to sizzle, put 2 glazed donuts (they’d have to be *really* bad to screw this up)- or 3, if the skillet’s big enough. When the sugar glaze starts to melt, flip them over & do the other side. You only need a fork- no knife. And a plate.
Don’t forget to take your skillet off the burner while you eat because you’re probably going to want another one.
Mercy!

(We hunted down a DD yesterday- after seeing this story, to celebrate a happy vet trip. They’re not what we remembered. Oh well. The possums were probably happy.)

Grocery stores can have pretty good donuts too, if you get in early enough.
