Interesting article.

BTW, DD has historically been nasty to its franchise operators. Rockford, IL lost all three years ago because of a capricious change in terms.

I noticed a new DD in my town this spring and was excited to have a plain, no frills donut to dink in my coffee. I was absolutely livid when that donut cost OVER a dollar before taxes, was a third the size they used to be, and was obviously boxed instead of fresh. I haven’t been back.

Recently, a friend of mine stopped at a local, family owned donut shop to treat me to one of theirs. Theirs boasts of natural ingresients, no meat based fats, and they bake them as opposed to frying them. It was absolutely delicious!

Yes, convenience stores are making fast work of the donut industry when you dan purchase one twice the size/weight for 50 cents rather than over a dollar each, and the store donuts are fresh.

Yestersay, DD was offering a free cup of coffee, but the parking lot was empty as it always is.

This is the beauty of capitolism. You either compete to be above the rest, or you go down the tubes.
