Warplanes have carried out air strikes in Hama, Homs and Latakia in what Russia's powerful Orthodox Church has termed a "holy battle".

Personally, I prefer the nuclear-tipped AGM-129B ALCM ;)
Good post. And don’t doubt for a minute that the Russians will us Thermobaric bombs that will rival nearly kiloton range blast effects of nuclear weapons.
Putin says there will only be airstrikes. No combat troops. We’ll see....
I like the way you think.
“Earlier, Britain-based monitor the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that at least 27 civilians had been killed in air strikes in Homs province.”
How pray tell, do they know there were almost precisely 27 civilians killed today. They (with the exception of children) could just as easily have been terrorists. Who really knows? And as to how many people were actually killed, who really knows that either? And it could very well all be propaganda by numbers. From either (any) side. They all lie. Obama and his regime lie all the time.
At this point in time, I believe Putin just as much if not more than Obama. At least Putin will protect and try to save Christian lives. Obama won’t and hasn’t. He only wants Muzzie refugees, not fleeing tortured Christians. And for a lot of reasons, I think Assad has been lied about and set up as the West’s whipping boy to further the Obama Admin and the West’s own agenda. I will elaborate when I have more time. Putin is not Mr. Nice Guy, but at least he shoots from the hip. To me, Obama is just purely disgusting and is ruining this once great country. I hope we can survive through the 2016 election intact.
It required something so obvious to everyone, like our untenable position in Syria, to set the dominoes into motion. And we did it to ourselves by allowing a competing nation to simply take the mantle of moral authority by backing the wrong party. Classic overreach.
This is only the beginning. There's nothing we can do to prevent Russia from establishing a significant presence in the ME. Next comes the Chinese - what's to stop them from landing 1m or more PLA in Syria/Iran (with those country's invitations)?
Nothing, nada, zilch. Like I've said on other threads, the events leading to Syria didn't happen today, last year or even 5 years ago. They happened generations ago when the USA lost sight of the real requirements to maintaining global peace.
Electing Hussein was simply the symptom of a much deeper problem. It's the people themselves who allowed the system to become so corrupt that we are now harvesting the bitter fruit.
This is our wake up call that the bill is now coming due.
“Close with and destroy the enemy; seize and hold terrain. Fundamentals of warfare. Who cares which enclave is being controlled by which group of arabic-titled extremists?
Something we’ve forgotten, but the Russians apparently haven’t.”
Your whole comment is an excellent summation of what is most likely taking place strategically, move by move, by Russia. Thank you for imparting your knowledge to us.
That post should be required reading.
"The areas struck in Homs are controlled mostly by al-Qaeda affiliate al-Nusra Front, while those hit in Latakia are controlled mostly by a coalition known as the Army of Conquest, which includes al-Nusra.
The areas targeted in Hama are controlled mostly by Islamist and moderate rebel groups."
One Jihadi is just as good as any other.
“Assad is a splinter sect Shia. The Sunnis want him out They are Alqaeda, Al Nusra and ISIS All the same. Assad is a GOOD guy. He has never done anything to his people but more important -to THE UNITED STATES!! That gas story was ISIS GAS!! MCCain is a huckster!”
I just commented on this thread that Assad had been set up. I’m glad you think the same. McCain, the old phony warhawk who is a gigantic *sshole, has been all over the TV today spewing garbage. Someone get the hook!
I believe that Putin has ulterior motives.
We’ll know in time.
It is interesting he hit the insurgents rather than ISIS.
Who saw that coming? Lets see a show of hands who didn’t.
This may merely be an excuse for Russia to take policy control of the region. It remains to be seen how much building up with take place. This has the earmarkings of a regional shift in power, that Russia will parley into something more sinister than we first realize.
The Western world for the most part seems asleep at the wheel.
McCain is on the tube, because McCain was the instigator of our involvement in Syria. The buffoon can’t be seen as a buffoon, so he’ll continue to muddy the waters to increase lack of clarity.
He is the enemy. Without him, we wouldn’t be in this mess.
P.S. Dana Perino on The Five is a TOTAL IDIOT and I CAN’T STAND HER! There, I feel better.
“He is the enemy. Without him, we wouldnt be in this mess.”
Right you are. He sucks big-time.
It looks for all the world that Arizona will re-elect him.
Not a word here about it. (unless I missed it)
“I believe that Putin has ulterior motives.”
There are ulterior motives all over the place; in particular in Obama’s mind. He’s met his match and has been surpassed by Putin though. A duel to the psychological death.
Yes, the entire Obama admin is concocting BS stories on why they were supporting Lslamists in Syria,
And the Russians will expose that fact, secreted from the American People, with these air strikes.
They are probably there to evac the US CIA operatives and US Special Operators.
They were embedded throughout the "rebels".
My problem is that Obama is going to get us into a shooting war, and the objectives he’s set, are not going to stand up to the charge we are blocking actions against ISIS.
Hitting merely Syrian rebels and not ISIS, isn’t going to register with a lot of folks.
None the less some of our guys will get hurt in the skirmishes.
This could also become confrontational. It already is to an extent.
Obama is probably in the White House medicated.
“Obama is probably in the White House medicated.”
LOL, good place for him. Keeps him out of everyone’s hair.
