The baton was officially transferred Monday to the worlds new sole superpower and Vladimir Putin willingly picked it up.
President Obama (remember him?) embraced the ideals espoused by the United Nations founders 70 years ago: Diplomacy and international order will win over time, while might and force will lose.
Putin, too, appealed to UN laws (as he sees them), but he also used his speech to announce the formation of a broad international coalition to fight ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
Similar to the anti-Hitler coalition, it could unite a broad range of forces to fight those who, just like the Nazis, sow evil and hatred of humankind, he said.
And whod lead this new coalition? Hint: Moscow has always celebrated the Allies World War II victory as a Russian-led fete.
Oh, and if anyone wondered which Syrian players the coalition would rely on as allies, Putin made it clear: No one but President [Bashar al-]Assads armed forces and Kurd militia are fighting the Islamic State.
That, of course, isnt Obamas view. Americas president said he opposed the logic of supporting tyrants. After all, Assad drops barrel bombs on innocent children.
But Putin has troops in Syria, is arming Assad to the teeth and signed a pact of anti-ISIS intelligence-sharing with Assad, Iran and the leaders of Iraq (the ones America fought to put in power).

And well liked BTW. Saw his 60 Minutes interview and I liked him.
Lets get real. Putin is financially restrained from being a superpower. The Russian Federation’s GDP is $ 1.86 trillion per year and even Italy’s economy is stronger at $ 2.14 trillion per year.
What did Putin say that made you like him?
A dork is worth a thousand insults.
Obama still has many more insults coming his way.
“AWOL Administration” - all show, no guts
Obama, not ready to lead on day one and still not ready to lead on day nnn.
yep...... the guy from china is the most powerful in reality
Obama is only potential and lacks kinetic ability and mindset
Sometimes it’s not the size of the sword you can buy, but how well you swing it.
We spend a butt-load on our military and it seems like most of the time they are being used to accomplish nothing.
Putin can just pay others to do Russia’s desires.
We had to hear it from Russia?
Why couldn't the WH ding-a-ling mouth those reassuring words?
The easy answer....b/c he sees himself as a defender of ISIS...not the American people.
Would that the United States had a president who was a patriot, a nationalist and had a set of big brass ones. As the Post article states, Putin doesn’t want to be liked at the UN, he wants to be feared. Can’t see anyone in fear of our big-eared man-boy president...
Oh, and for those of you who say, “But he was KGB!” While that’s absolutely true, we tend to forget that GHW Bush was Director of the CIA. In fact, Langley is named for him.
Putin is a very bad guy.....he’s ten times the leader of our community organizer!!!
One’s military is useless when one has a sniveling little coward as it’s leader!!!
It seems like Putin and Khamenei were waiting for Obama to get locked into his Iran agreement before announcing and acting on one of their “side deals.”
It was his delivery and his answers. Compared to that wuss 0bama Putin has it together.
Nothing...?!?!? The military is doing exactly what it is supposed to be doing. By being a shining example for equality with gays, transgendered, transexuals and women in combat.
If that does not scare Russia, China, Iran, ISIS, North Korea, Cuba and all the other bad guys, then dammit we need more social engineering.
This is true. So those who support Putin are also supporting Obama. Those who oppose Putin are also opposing Obama. Those who want the USA ruined support the Putin/Obama objectives of US decline and the restoration of the Russian Empire.
But comparing the bamster to most people will get you that.
I'm not sure Putin is someone we want to be lauding. Sure, he's done a few decent things, but his record is not particularly one of decency.
It’s the MSM with their agenda. Who really knows? It’s all harking back to the cold war days where both sides tell false stories. I like to wait until the real truth comes out before convicting unlike the MSM.
Not to imply that Hussein is #2.
I understand the MSM has an agenda, I mistrust them as much as anyone, but that means relying on a Sixty Minutes interview to inform us of who Putin is and what he is like might not be the best thing to do.
I do know he was head of the KGB, and so far he's NOT said he thinks they were bad, and he's said that the fall of the Soviet Union itself was one of the worst events in recorded history.
I'm too ignorant on the subject to get into an argument, that wasn't my intent, I was just curious as to why you seemed to like him.
