Trump Proposes Replacing Obamacare with Government-Funded Universal Healthcare

YoutTube Video: Donald Trump Endorses Universal Health Care - "The Government's Gonna Pay For It."

On Sunday’s episode of 60 Minutes on CBS, Donald Trump said that “Obamacare is a disaster” and that he plans to repeal it and replace it with a government-funded universal healthcare plan.

During the lengthy interview, CBS correspondent Scott Pelley asked billionaire real estate mogul and 2016 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump his position on healthcare reform.

Obamacare’s going to be repealed and replaced. Obamacare is a disaster if you look at what’s going on with premiums where they’re up 40, 50, 55 percent,” replied Trump.

Pelley then pressed him to offer his own specific plan for fixing the U.S. healthcare system.

Trump began explaining, “There’s many different ways, by the way. Everybody’s got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, ‘No, no, the lower 25 percent that can’t afford private.’ But…

Pelley then interrupted, noting that Trump was describing a universal healthcare plan.

Trump continued, “I am going to take care of everybody. I don’t care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.

The real estate billionaire then explained that he “would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care” of uninsured Americans.

When Pelley asked him to clarify who would pay for the plan, Trump replied, “The government’s gonna pay for it. But we’re going to save so much money on the other side. But for the most it’s going to be a private plan and people are going to be able to go out and negotiate great plans with lots of different competition with lots of competitors with great companies and they can have their doctors, they can have plans, they can have everything.

Thanks for saving me the time to write that. You are 100% correct.

This is no surprise. In his book “The America We Deserve” Trump touts single payer.

What we actually need is the most radical solution out there.

No more 3rd party insurance - unless negotiated between private parties. Enforce contracts and the rule of law. Switch to an all cash system.

It would crash/bankrupt our present government and debt inflated system - but it would quickly reform it as well. Hepatatis C treatments will no longer cost $10,000 per dose. They will drop to $50-$100 to make them affordable.

All he said was that he’d have the government continue to pay for healthcare for the poor (Medicaid).

So he said we could pay for ours and the government pays for the poor. So where does this differ from Obamacare? Sounds like we end up paying for ours and theirs.

People need to read past the damn headlines. The media manipulation is very thick.

I would be very surprised if Trump wants government health care.

You will. But I will not.

Simply going back to pre-Obamacare would make healthcare cheaper, with lower deductibles. But he’s also going to add free-market reforms, such as competition across state lines.

That’s not really so hard to achieve—or understand.

I'll wait until he puts his proposal in writing on his website.

So far for somebody accused of lacking specificity, he's doing a good job of rolling them out. Since the primaries are still a ways off, I see no reason to speculate or buy what others saying. I can simply be patient, wait for Trump to announce a new policy paper, then read it for myself on his website (he posts it immediately).

For me so far:

1. Immigration Reform: Yes. Strongly support.
2. Second Amendment: Yes. Strongly support.
3. Tax Reform: Sort of. I love the idea of a fair tax instead. I see how this can be a step in the right direction, but I would have loved to see more of a more radical change. Guess it's a step in the right direction.

I'll be standing by to read and review future publications on national security, healthcare, and others.

Let’s give him a chance to explain his plan.

He won't be able to. He's inarticulate.

9YearLurker is correct on post #3.

Trump will be out with a Health Plan in a few weeks. Until then no one should be speculating or smearing about what the Health Plan will be.

Words don’t mean what they say when it’s someone ‘we’ want/like. It’s only bad/wrong/evil/stupid when democrats do exactly that. Not us though. We get to have our cake and eat it too. It’s a rule of 2015 conservatism on the internet.

Sorry folks but truth is truth. Ignoring reality created our America today. If y’all want more just keep unicorn farming.

He has said private healthcare for all but the indigent.

This complete thread is bunk, trying to put words into Trump’s mouth that he didn’t say.

Trump’s the best political communicator we’ve had in some time.

He won't be able to. He's inarticulate.

Oh come now, give the guy a chance!

"See, I'm gonna help people, ya know? Help people by helping them, because their health care is too expensive, and we just need to bring, you know, bring that down. Make it cost less. Give people the chance to look for plans they want. I'll make sure they can access plans they want which, you know, which will help them. I'll make sure there's plans for them to choose from. Good plans. Make American great again!"

“He won’t be able to. He’s inarticulate.”

Fine! Get your candidate of choice to haul their ass out there and articulate their own detailed plan then!

Can you by any chance explain to us who that person is and where is their policy statement? Because this “inarticulate” person has articulated more than all of the rest so far.

Yep, you’ve gotta figure there are operatives from about a dozen competing—and so far less successful—GOP presidential campaigns trying to jump on any thread possible to try to trash Trump.

But this thread is particularly bad, started with an obviously lying post at the top.

No but the VA is the prototype of government-run single payer health care.

Its entirely government-run.

We’d actually save money doing away with it.

Trump is basically calling for a return to what we had before Obamacare.

There is no need to trash him. He wrote on healthcare. The indo was posted above. He said what he said.
