The results are in at the Values Voter Summit -- and, for once, Donald Trump fails to top a conservative poll.
The straw poll at the summit, a conservative gathering hosted by the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C., showed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz winning over voters, leading the pack for the third year in a row.
Cruz, with 35 percent of support, was followed by neurosurgeon-turned-politician Ben Carson, with 18 percent of the vote. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee came in third, drawing 14 percent of supporters, followed by Florida Sen. Marco Rubio at 13 percent.
Play Video Why so thin-skinned, Donald Trump?
Registering at fifth place on the survey results: Donald Trump, the GOP front-runner in many state and national polls.
The religious conservatives in attendance simply weren't buying what Trump had to offer. Despite bringing his Bible on stage when addressing the audience, Trump registered at only 5 percent. Trump was even booed at the summit when he slammed Rubio over his immigration policies and called him a "clown."
Below Trump, Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former Hewlett-Packard chief Carly Fiorina came in with 4 percent and 3 percent of the vote, respectively.
Trump's low support among the conservative evangelical base will come as no surprise for those following the billionaire's presidential campaign. Trump has been known to flout convention when it comes to wooing the religious right, even admitting once that he was "not sure" that he had ever asked God for forgiveness.
"If I do something wrong, I think I just try and make it right, I don't bring God into that picture," Trump said in July at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa.
Still, Family Research Council president Tony Perkins, who announced the summit's results, said that Trump's fifth place showing was still "pretty good."
Of the issues most important to attendees, the top three included protecting religious liberty, advocating against abortion rights and protecting "natural marriage."
Carson, with 25 percent of the vote, was the first choice for the vice-presidential slot.
At least 2,700 registered participants attended the summit.
Give Money to a real conservative....
TED CRUZ
You got to talk like a preacher to win the Value Summit poll.
The winner of this poll has never received the nomination.
Yup.
The winner of this poll has never received the nomination.

Uh-huh. And the losers have never won the Presidency.

From time to time, someone invents an excellent wheel. Once invented, its hard to better the product, and so instead of a wheel invented by me, I offer one by a Freeper named M1911A1.
With all credit for writing this going to M1911A1, here is your answer:
At this point, Id hardly care if in 2014 Trump had come out in support of almost any liberal cause.
The republic is dying. The libs are killing it, but guess who helps them? Thats right, the conservatives of the GOP!
You want to despise Trump for a former stance on abortion, when, as a private citizen, he could do little about it except write checks to politicians. Im wagering it wasnt a hot button donor issue for a guy focused on his empire.
Well how bout that conservative Mitch McConnell, a man who could actually do something about it...its his job to do something about it, he was given power to do something about it. He did something today, he declared it was futility to defund Planned Parenthood, and this is only the latest in a long, long, and shameful list of outrages that have been either condoned or conducted by him and the other GOPe oligarchs.
You may dislike Trump, but remember that Mitch hates you if you are conservative, as do his masters, the big donors to Super Pacs. They only care about staying in power and growing government, and they trot out a conservative dog and pony show every once in a while to keep us yokels in line.
They have been busy changing the rules to make sure they are there forever, and if they lose to a Democrat, its no big deal, because they ultimately dont differ all that much on the big issues.
Trump may strike you as too liberal, a braggart, a phony, or refreshing. It doesnt matter. Supporting anybody else at this point is asking for the entrenched uniparty to keep abusing you. Trump is the only way out of this abusive relationship that is going to put your freedom in the grave.
After he upsets that applecart, we can start looking for someone better, but if we say no thanks to Trump the GOPe will figure out ways to make sure that no more challenges like his are ever mounted.
There are no guarantees that Trump is the real deal, or that even if he is that he can fix the crooked system, but if he doesnt get that chance it is guaranteed that the crooked system will fix it so us annoying voters are even more irrelevant than we are now.
Trump has awoken them to the fact that even us dullards will only take so much, and once Trump exposes them, if they defeat Trump they wont even have to put on the dog and pony show anymore.
This post is curtesy M1911A1’s brilliant mind.
Pay special attention to the last three paragraphs.
Thanks I did not want to have to be the one to say it :)
Good.
True, dat. Freeper Doughty One put it very well in a post earlier today (wish I'd bookmarked it).
In essence, he said that, those in our camp who are resisting the Trump surge, are actually fighting against the very things that they themselves have been wishing and praying for, for years and years now - basically, the rise of one individual who's not beholden to the establishment or special interests, and who's ready willing and able to dive into the belly of the beast and lay siege to all of the leftist constructs and players who've been dismantling our country.
Hell no, Trump isn't 'perfect' by any means, but he loves this country, he has the will and determination to get it back on track, he wants to dismantle or destroy much of what's killing us, and he isn't afraid to take the enemies of America (both foreign and domestic) to the mat.
For the life of me, I can't see any other candidate who's got the stones he has, or is even addressing the most pressing issues of our time the way he's doing.
Unless he goes full retard before November 2016, he's got my vote. Damn straight, he does.
Thanks Windflier. I like the way you worded it also.
Look at that! Two of my good buddies at the same time!! Haha!
Hope you guys are well.
We survived Popemania in Philly... 4.7 square miles of the city was shut down. Wall to wall people. Unbelievable...
Wow that’s something. Good morning.
Doing good here.
Hope you are as well.
Taking each day as God gives it to me, my brother.
Sounds like a plan...
= :^)
it is indeed.
I throw in a couple of beers and shot of bourbon to augment “The Plan”, too...
Works like a charm! :^)
I’m beginning to see the appeal of your plan...
Please continue. = :^)
It’s gotta be bourbon...
Cheap, expensive, whatever. It’s gotta start with “B” and have “ourbon” in the rest of it... or it’s a non-starter.
New tagline (courtesy of Tyrannocankles at Conservative Treehouse)
“The pitchforks and torches ripen on the vine. Left too long, they become black rifles.”
“Tyrannocankles”?????
haha!! Love it..!
