Donald Trump earned a rare rebuke from a conservative audience on Friday after criticizing Sen. Marco Rubio, who as emerged as his prime sparring partner in recent days.
Speaking to a social conservative crowd at the Values Voters Summit, where Rubio spoke earlier in the day, Trump was met with a wave of boos after calling his Republican rival a clown in his speech.

if Trump had mentioned Obama, do you SERIOUSLY THINK that people would not have been booing? Actually, Trump did mention Obama, and there was no booing. People just did not respond to a good portion of his speech either way. A few laughs here and there, some scattered applause, but relatively little. The biggest reaction he got was probably the booing at the clown comment. And if they were booing at the mention of Rubio, don't you think they would have booed even more when Trump talked about the Gang of 8 and amnesty? But that didn't happen. They ONLY booed at the clown comment.

"cheered more warmly than Trump"
I haven't sat down and compared the sound levels. Rubio fans could have been closer to the microphones. As someone with sound design background, I would hardly call the sound on Youtube videos objective.

Trumpkins? How cute. Thanks. Just wanted something shorter than "Trump supporters", but not derogatory.

No different here. They came for Trump. Can you cite anything to support that assumption? And if they came for Trump, why did he get the least applause of any of the speakers I watched?

They were booing Rubio.
This is nothing but MSNBC trying to spin the story.
There is no reason REAL conservatives would boo Trump for calling Rubio what he is. Rubio talks a semi-good game, he's got the moving rhetorical speech down pat, but that's about as good as it gets for him, as Dan Gelber (former Florida House member) said:
"When Marco Rubio speaks, young women swoon, old women faint and toilets flush themselves"

I haven't sat down and compared the sound levels. You don't have to go by sound level - you can go by the frequency and duration of the applause.

And they booed Rubio’s name when Jeb mentioned Rubio.

Well DUH!! It was in the middle of a sentence - he never gave them a chance to boo. Just who’s side are you on?
Try again, please.

I get what you're saying, but again, it's apples and oranges. One speaker can "milk" applause by waiting a long time, while another can cut it short to get to the next point. Trump's flaw is that he doesn't leave a lot of space for applause because he's barreling through his points. I'm not doubting you, but wonder why Rubio hasn't gotten any traction anywhere if he's so warmly received in conservative circles.

I watched the speech too, and if one wants to find 'booing at Trump', it is possible to do so.
The question in that case remains, why would "conservatives" defend the amnesty loving Rubio?
It is all in the eye of the beholder.

The question in that case remains, why would "conservatives" defend the amnesty loving Rubio? Who says I am defending Rubio??? I am just inserting a little reality into the conversation. Whether you like Rubio or not, the people at the summit clearly did not like the name calling - something Trump may want to consider.
