Great news that Boner is resigning.
I hear nonsense that McCarthy is next.
That cannot happen.
Mark Meadows did a lot to begin this back in August. He set the ball rolling.
Does he want to be speaker?
If so, we are obliged to support him.
I remember Raul Labrador made noises that he would run for Speaker.
Is he a good one to support if Meadows does not want the job?
This post is to solicit informed input from Freepers who are much more knowledgeable than me.
It cannot be McCarthy or we have just hit re-set.
Yes.
Gohmert is shaping up.
Gowdy has never impressed me and I have heard him a lot of times on Hugh Hewitt.
Steve King of Iowa
I understand Meadows’ inexperience.
Related I think is the smear campaign being done on Meadows recently by Politico, trying to make it look as if he is corrupt.
They go after any real conservative. That is SOP for Politico, et al
KEVIN McCARTHY (Boehner’s choice to succeed him as Speaker)
PROS:
Republican (not that THAT means anything any more!)
CONS:
Boehner’s handpicked Majority Leader. (And we all know how suspect was Boehner’s judgement.)
From California (Not that they’re all nuts out there, but most of them ARE seriously deranged.)
Ranked 142 of the 435 members of the House (a B-)
(Boehner was a C and ranked 221)
Supports AMNESTY!
THEN THERE IS THIS. There are numerous reports that McCarthy, who is married, had or is having an affair with a married female member of Congress. Please do your OWN research if you believe this could be a problem for McCarthy. Here’s why it could be:
During the effort to impeach Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich was having a secret (to everyone outside the Beltway) affair with Calista Bassick (who is now his wife). It’s believed in some quarters that the Democrats used the threat of going public with that information to keep Gingrich quiet during the impeachment effort. It worked and Clinton survived. Although with all the skeletons in their closets, the Dems would have to be nuts to do so (that said, I give you Debbie Wasseman Schultz!), do we really need another MARRIED high GOP official who may have trouble keeping his pants on and could easily be blackmailed if he refuses to go along to get along?
For what it’s worth, one final comment: I list below 9 folks who would quickly get MY support for Speaker. They are the top ranked Reps. at GRADEGOV.COM. These folks are pretty hard core conservatives and may not even have a chance to win the slot given the number of spineless weasels STILL in office up there.
That said, I’d ask you to remember that it was PREVIOUS MIDDLE OF THE ROADERS who got us into this mess. And the two things most often found in the middle of the road are DEAD SKUNKS and YELLOW STREAKS!
RANKING ARE FROM GRADEGOV.COM AND BASED ON VOTES CAST BY CITIZENS!
1.R. Blum (R) IA-1st

2.D. Brat (R) VA

3.C. Clawson (R) FL

4.MARTHA Roby (R) AL-2nd

7.M. Lee (R) UT

8.J. Wilson (R) SC-2nd

9.L. Gohmert (R) TX-1st

PS: I’d love to see Trey Gowdy get the job but would be happy with any of these folks. Trey as speaker would have the Dems and RINOs wetting themselves!
PPS: Martha Roby would be an excellent choice just to watch Pelosi burst into flames on the floor!!
Fellow Georgian DR. TOM PRICE RANKED 29 (A SOLID B)
Prepare for disappointment. McCarthy will be the next Speaker.
Ditto that here. Labrador was among those who voted to keep Boehner in office last time around Boehner was scrutinized for removal from office. I wouldn't trust Labrador any further than I could throw him.
The 25 who voted against Boehner the last time should caucus and choose one candidate from amongst them. I don’t trust anyone who voted for Boehner to be Speaker.
Newt Gingrich. An experienced, proven Speaker. That would free up all the other representatives to actually do their job without the hassles that come with the Speakers job.
McCarthy is having an affair with Renee Ellmers (R-NC), and everybody in DC knows it.
Fine, he’s a horrible pick anyway.

“Prepare for disappointment. McCarthy will be the next Speaker.”
I wouldn’t bet against that.
But if so, why even have Boner resign?
Good idea m
That’s too out of the box to happen but it is a creative idea.
that’s my guy...
