.- Sophie Cruz travelled from Los Angeles, across the United States, with her father and two uncles to try to hand a letter Pope Francis this week. Her dream came true on Wednesday when the popemobile stopped for the child, and she was given the most tender embrace of the day.
While Pope Francis paraded on his popemobile toward the National Mall in Washington, D.C., Sept. 23, Cruz, 5, jumped a security barrier and was soon stopped by security agents.
But Pope Francis saw her and motioned for the agents to bring her to him. She was carried over to the Roman Pontiff, who gave her a hug, a kiss, and a blessing.
Cruz in turn gave Francis a letter she wrote, as well as the yellow T-shirt worn by the immigration reform advocacy group to which her father and uncles belong. She also included a drawing of Pope Francis joining hands with herself and other children, with a message in Spanish that reads: “My friends and I love each other no matter the color of our skin.”

Cruz later recited the letter’s contents, which she had memorized in English and Spanish, for reporters from The Guardian.
“I want to tell you that my heart is sad,” Cruz began. “I would like to ask you to speak with the president and the Congress in legalizing my parents, because every day I am scared that one day they will take them away from me.”
She mentioned the hard farm and factory work immigrants do, and concluded, “All immigrants just like my dad help feed this country. They deserve to live with dignity. They deserve to live with respect. They deserve an immigration reform.”
Cruz told reporters, “I feel blessed and very moved because this blessing isn’t just for our family, it’s for all the immigrant families, all the Latin American families.”
Cruz was born in the United States, to parents who immigrated illegally from Oaxaca, Mexico.
Raúl Cruz, Sophie's father, told Telemundo, “We made a really long trip, a big sacrifice, we’re migrant parents. Thanks be to God, to the faith we have, and the dream that we had, we were able to give the Pope a letter so he would intercede for all the immigrants, not just Latinos or Mexicans, but from all the countries. We are all the children of God.”
The Cruz family were among a group of a dozen faithful who travelled from Our Lady, Queen of the Angels parish in Los Angeles to see the Pope in Washington, D.C.
As they hoped, Pope Francis has indeed advocated for immigrants while in the United States. The same day he met Sophie Cruz, he spoke to the country's bishops, praising them for their welcome of immigrants, “who continue to look to America, like so many others before them, in the hope of enjoying its blessings of freedom and prosperity.”
And in his Sept. 24 address to Congress, he said, “I am happy that America continues to be, for many, a land of dreams,” noting that many migrants have come to America with the desire to build and achieve their dream of a future in freedom.
“On this continent, too, thousands of persons are led to travel north in search of a better life for themselves and for their loved ones, in search of greater opportunities. Is this not what we want for our own children?”
I’d also read that this was staged.
The vast majority of the current population self-identifies are "Christian". Are they actually practicing Christians? If they were, we wouldn't have so many Americans eagerly embracing the Supreme Court's decision to force sodomite marriage on this nation. Miley Cyrus is a "Christian" on paper but she has utter contempt for Christian beliefs.
Same situation with immigrants. The vast majority of them will self-identify as "Christians". Are they actually practicing Christians? Many are not. They may have been baptized in a church when they were a baby, and have a family that is nominally "Christian", but they don't attend church today, or even understand or accept basic church dogma or values.
Having a "Christian" majority on paper is easy. Having a nation that truly governs in a Christian way is something entirely different. I do not see compelling evidence that importing hordes of third world immigrants with children out of wedlock is making this nation any more "Christian". Indeed, I see evidence that the opposite is happening.
So we have freepers that agree with the “They’re doing the jobs Americans won’t, let’s give these hardworking wonderful people a hug and a wet sloppy kiss” philosophy? I guess that shouldn’t surprise me.
Another thing I hate is this “We’re all immigrants” bullsh!t because of ancestors being immigrants (even the Indians didn’t originate here, they walked over).
I was born here to US Citizen parents, I am not an immigrant.
If I had a kid that had a strong calling to go to this pope, I would seriously qeustion whether I had a demon child. I would definitely invest in holy water and crosses. All mute points because I would not walk across the street to see this communist #%*£.
Heh. I was arguing with a freeper on another thread who kept bashing the Catholic Church's liberal views on immigration, so I googled his church and the leader of the Southern Baptist Convention is even more pro-illegal than Francis.

The kicker? He was unopposed when he ran for re-election as President of the SBC last year! You'd think at least SOMEONE would have at least challenged him out of embarrassment of that guy as the face of his denomination. He claims nobody cares who the leader of the SBC is. So they don't have to clean up their own backyard, but of course they get to lecture us about the open-borders Catholic leaders.
Defending one's faith is one thing, but repeating the "They’re just good hard-working Christians doing the jobs Americans won’t do" is quite another.
Lay Catholics not only should, but have an obligation to point out we do NOT agree with the Pope's position.
Sorry, guy. I’ve watched what these so-called “Christian” illegals can do to one’s neighborhood. And it’s exactly like Trump described. Drugs, rapes, murders. I had an attempted murder across from my house of two police officers by one of these illegals who (thanks to both Zero & Dubya) remained unmolested in this country for a decade.
They brought nothing but crime and mayhem and plunging property values. I had to deal with terroristic harassment from neighbors 20 feet away from my home of 4 decades that the police did nothing about it in this new era of “tolerance.” Thank the Good Lord those degenerate, drunken animals finally moved on after daily prayer from me asking they be delivered far away.
If you cannot get these “Christians” to obey basic laws of immigration, willfully choosing to disregard how long they are allowed to stay, how do you expect them to seriously obey any other laws ? If they respect our country, they’ll respect our laws and LEAVE. They can get in line and follow the proper channels to migrate legally once out of our country.
