The appeal of Donald Trump to angry low information voters
examiner.com ^ | 9 9 2015

Aside from being a loud egomaniacal celebrity showman, there are a number of reasons why Donald Trump is leading his GOP rivals with the support of a far-right segment of the Republican Party aka the Trumpsters.

Let's begin with the fact that most Trumpsters are birthers and STILL believe that President Obama is a Muslim born in Kenya. I kid you not. Public Policy Polling ("PPP") just released the results of their new poll showing that 61 percent of Trump's supporters still don’t believe President Obama was born in America and 62 percent think he is a secret Muslim who has lied about his true religious affiliation, and 63 percent want the U.S. Constitution amended to end birthright citizenship.

However, while these percentages are higher than those of the overall GOP electorate polled by PPP, a majority of Republicans still agreed on two out of the three: 54 percent thought Obama was a Muslim, and 51 percent supported ending birthright citizenship, while only 44 percent still believe Obama wasn’t born in the U.S.

This ignorance despite the FACT that the President’s campaign in 2008 posted his legal birth certificate showing a live birth in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4th, 1961; despite the fact that President Obama has for over 20 years professed to be a devout Christian and spoken publicly of his "personal relationship with Jesus Christ"; despite no sightings of the President attending a mosque, no pictures of him reading the Koran, or praying to Mecca, or observing Islamic holidays with his family. Most Americans know this nonsense was largely driven by Trump and the racist ignorant birther myth feeds right into the right-wing’s hate for this President.

Comparing apples and pineapples, I’d say.

Well, in a word, no.

I wasn't comparing Trump to an entertainer. I was equating him to an entertainer.

So just in case there's some confusion between "comparing" with "equating," let's deal with your example of apples versus pineapples:

An apple never equals or "equates to" a pineapple. On that postulate we can agree completely.

But a comparison of apples to pineapples is entirely legit. So let's compare the two:

1. An apple has a smooth skin, whereas by comparison, a pineapple has a rough, prickly exterior.

2. Apples must be grown in temperate zones, whereas by comparison, pineapples must be grown in tropical or semi-tropical zones.

3. Apples are off-white in their interiors, whereas by comparison, pineapples are yellow inside.

4. Apples have low acidic content, whereas by comparison, pineapples have relatively high acid levels.

In summary, there's a big difference between "comparing" and "equating" various objects or concepts. You compare things based on their differences. You equate things based on their similarities.

Finally, to elaborate on my basic point, I'm not of the mind to "compare" Donald Trump to an entertainer. I think that he "equates" to an entertainer, and therefore I think it's instructive to analyze him as such.

Even LIVs can’t deny common sense when it’s SHOWN to them. It’s just never been shown to them until now.

Nice to see you - I’m just poking my nose in for the fun of it. I could show the sky was blue and no one would take any notice.

I assume that if Trump wins, a lot of ... interesting things will happen.

I replied to you on the Tony Abbot thread, asking if the actual voters are okay with this? I hope he makes it back into power.

I will check in...

You get the joke!!!! If nominated Trump will pull in a wide spectrum of voters. This includes millions of low-information voters. I doubt Mitt Romney got many of their votes! And Trump will STEAL from the Democrats.

Hillary is not a candidate will pull in the low-infos the way Obama did
