Donald Trump accused Carly Fiorina of being a terrible businesswoman. Here are the facts

Carly Fiorina, the former chief executive of Hewlett-Packard, is running for president on her business smarts. She led the company from 1999 to 2005, the first female head of a Fortune 50 firm — and controversies from her high-profile tenure resurfaced Wednesday at the Republican debate.

"Yes, we had to make tough choices," Fiorina said on the prime-time stage, "and in doing so, we saved 80,000 jobs, went on to grow to 160,000 jobs. And now Hewlett-Packard is almost 300,000 jobs. We went from lagging behind to leading in every product category and every market segment."

"The company is a disaster and continues to be a disaster," Donald Trump responded later in the night. "They still haven't recovered. In fact, today, on the front page of the Wall Street Journal, they fired another 25 or 30,000 people saying we still haven't recovered from the catastrophe."

Trump is among a chorus of increasingly vocal Fiorina critics. Before her team could grab the space, a cybersquatter purchased CarlyFiorina.org,

Nice try.

Trump certainly had wealthy folks, but it was D. Trump who turned that into an global empire worth many $billions$.

It takes 1,000 million to equal just 1 billion.☺

Companies within his corporation declared bankruptcy.

One of his so-called bankruptcies was as a result of a divorce so that he wouldn’t have to pay extreme alimony. I think that that happened when he divorced the ex-model. ;-)

I have no problem with your post except the “go back” part. I was under the impression was conservative cite, where like minded people could discuss and debate. We are like minded people. I am not your enemy. We will both end up voting for the same person for Pres in Nov ‘16, even if it’s Trump - or Cruz - or Rubio etc.

Correct me if I’m wrong - and I’m sure you will - But I don’t think FR was intended to be Trump-Cult Headquarters.

And we are on the same side.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post. Now I plan to watch some college football.

Huntsman and Romney were cousins. Related by poligamist marriage of ancestors in Mexico
. Didnt realize the Italian connection of Perenchio.
Makes me wonder. Since Trump has had to deal with mobs connected to the building industry all his life. And is very open about it. Read the book THE TRUMPS
Are there any connections of mob with Spanish network. I know it was Mexican drug cartel and mob who set up the street gangs of Chicago to sell their products ( if you want the JJ BHO connection FR mail me

Some friends of mine lost big on the Lucent dive. They haven’t forgotten all the $$$ they lost, and I’m sure anyone with half a brain knows the impact it had on people.

Read the book THE TRUMPS. It was Freidrich the grandfather who came from Germany penniless. Open a restaurant with coffee and horsemeat ( from the dying pack horses) along the trail to the Klondike. Returned to NYC with bride and died with 1917 Flue epidemic. Left a widow and three children a barber by trade. He also flipped houses
. Fred was 11. By 16 he was going to high school, and trade school, working weekend and buying buildings (with his mother’s signature. ) He worked long hours sometimes doing trade men’s jobs. Dealt with mob, corrupt politicians and numerous ethnic groups. ( best partner was Jewish )
Got a break by being honest during Truman fiasco. Testified in Congess during Eisenhower investigation - and became a republican

Donald worked at a young age along side his father. Came home weekend to help dad and go to church with mom. Did not socialize in college but bought and lived in rat infested property he owned fixing it up in evenings. By the time he graduated he was a millionaire on his own.

HE and his family worked hard THEY BUILT THAT COMPANY.
get off the envy priveledge bit.
( He even made his children have part time jobs — mowing - clearing land - working boat dock growing up)

1. As opposed to THE DONALD, who was born wealthy and stayed wealthy, despite all the BKs.

2. Correct me if I’m wrong - and I’m sure you will - But I don’t think FR was intended to be Trump-Cult Headquarters.

Yes, Free Republic is Conservative central. For that reason we see a lot of newcomers as the campaign seasons heat up and we head into the general election.

While this is something we all want, it is also a time for gamesmanship, and problems as well.

We watch folks who come here during election cycles. We often see people who show up with an agenda who start revealing their mindset from the word go. To many of us, it appears like an operative, and those folks often don't remain long.

If someone comes and provides accurate information, no problem. If they come presenting information clearly designed to be untruthful (or even twisting the truth) to make someone look bad, to hurt a candidate, we'll call them on it.

Trump was lucky to be born in a relatively wealthy home. He did inherit a large business empire. It is also true that during an down-turn in the economy, his empire fell on bad times. Part of that may have been bad mistakes on his part. The fact is, he did turn his negative $150 million dollar net worth around, and today he is worth billions based on his own efforts.

If someone wants to say he was born to wealth and so what if he's wealthy now, they aren't providing a recitation of what the true situation was. Trump earned every penny of what he has today. His dad's fortune was wiped out, and Trump rebuilt the empire and increased it's worth to what it is today.

As for bankruptcies, they are legal. They can be better than the business going under, everyone losing their jobs, the local economy suffering, a slum situation developing, and the government at all levels losing a tax stream. Even the creditors who lose during a bankruptcy, can recoup some or all of their money by continuing business with the remaining firm. If the bankruptcy didn't happen, they would get fractions on the dollar, and not have the opportunity for continued business (profits).

Here's something you should know. (Particularly before you just flop a statement onto the forum without thinking.)

Although the decision to file bankruptcy should not be taken lightly, it is nothing to be ashamed of. It can be the first step towards your future personal and financial success. Below is a list of some great and other famous Americans who found it necessary to file bankruptcy.

Abraham Lincoln - 16th president of the Unites States- twice filed bankruptcy
Ulysses S. Grant - 18th president of the United States
Thomas Jefferson - founding father, author of the Declaration of Independence, 3rd president of the United States
William McKinley - 25th president of the United States
Walt Disney - as in Mickey Mouse and Disneyland
P.T. Barnum - filed for bankruptcy in 1871
Mark Twain - American author
Oscar Wilde - playwright
Henry John Heinz - condiment manufacturer famous for Heinz ketchup (my personal favorite)
Milton Hershey - founder of Hershey's chocolate
Henry Ford - automobile manufacturer
J.C. Penney - founder of the department store chain
Mickey Rooney - actor
Debbie Reynolds - movie actress and hotel/casino owner
Johnny Unitas - NFL Hall of Fame quarterback
Dorothy Hamill - figure skater, Olympian
Bjorn Borg - tennis star
Jerry Lee Lewis - rock and roll star
Burt Reynolds - shortly after his divorce from Loni Anderson
Nicholas Cage - actor
Donald Trump - filed two separate Chapter 11 for his hotels/casinos
Terrell Owens - NFL football player
Stephen Baldwin - actor
Jose Conseco - MLB baseball player
George McGovern - former presidential candidate
John Conally - Texas governor who was injured while riding with President John F. Kennedy at the time of his assignation

Trump-Cult...

I'm sure you can't imagine why someone would think you might have come here with an agenda.

You need to bone up on your facts. Someone who challenges you based on what you have written, doesn't have to be a cult member. In fact, they might even have found one, and thus they are responding.

We do want new people here. We also like to think they would be informed before they start shooting their mouth off.

Raising questions about Trump is accepted. Uttered half truths and falsehood won't be.

Cult? Seriously?

You're going to have a fairly hard time convincing me you and I have the same overall views based on what you've provided up until now.

A lot of kids in Trump’s demographic spent their 20’s and 30’s living off the interest in some European locale, smoking a lot of dope and waiting for the full inheritance to kick in.

Trump didn’t.

My son-in-law work(ed) for HP under Ms. Forina (still does, as of last week.)

He led three 10 person teams in the printer division.

He was told to rate each person in these teams on a ten point scale.

He did and his superiors were shocked when he turned his results to find that each person rated a 10!

He was told the reason for this "review" was to find those below certain numbers as the company was going to cut at least 1/3 of his division and would only keep those scoring a 10. My son-in-law, was then told to "weed out at least 10 team members using 'other criteria (preferably males)' if he chose but that 10 were to be cut by the following Monday!"

No way would my daughter and her husband ever consider voting for Carly!

In the interest of accuracy...

I posted the Trump stats offered up by that site, without noticing an inaccuracy.

Four Trump corporations file for bankruptcy protection. All four were granted the protection.

The site stated it was two.

The reason to slash those jobs - to buy Compaq!

Nope and what's even more egregious, his "new boss" was a woman who'd never worked in printers - or for HP!Whenever she had a question, which was often, or when she needed help, again often, she'd tell my son-in-law she wanted a "conference" with him!

Find the interview of his college friends Didn’t party. Carried a brief case. And had that swagger even back then

Another friend from the military school explained where his blunt honesty came from They were punished if they didn’t tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but truth
