Have Evangelicals Who Support Trump Lost Their Values?
nytimes.com ^ | SEPT. 17, 2015 | RUSSELL MOORE

Posted on 09/18/2015 8:50:20 AM PDT by Berlin_Freeper

IN 2006, the television comedy “The Office” aired an episode in which one of the characters, Dwight Schrute, nervously faces the prospect of delivering a speech after winning the title of top salesman of the year for his company, Dunder Mifflin. As a prank, his co-worker preps him for his moment by cribbing a speech from a dictator, coaching him to deliver it by pounding the lectern and waving his arms wildly. Dwight does it, and the audience gives a standing ovation to a manic tirade.

Watching a cartoonish TV character deliver authoritarian lines with no principles, just audacity, was hilarious back then, but that was before we saw it happening before our eyes in the race for the United States presidency.

Donald J. Trump stands astride the polls in the Republican presidential race, beating all comers in virtually every demographic of the primary electorate. Most illogical is his support from evangelicals and other social conservatives. To back Mr. Trump, these voters must repudiate everything they believe.

Evangelical Christians are not stupid they see two bought and paid for political parties. Big deal one of them the GOP says it will fight for so-con issues, they don’t. Instead political liars sell out our jobs, our future to make money for themselves.

Evangelical Christians like most Americans are tired of the political corruption that has given us Obama, the GOPe liars, the illegals pouring into our country, jobs being sucked out, the anti-Christian media the other candidates are afraid of, and all the rest of the evil so present in our nation.

This evangelical can’t wait for a Trump Presidency.

Russell Moore wants the status quo and amnesty for illegals, neither are Christian values nor do either point to someone who hears God and His ways.

The media’s defn of Evangelical is their construct.

***
And their definition is subject to change for the benefit of fitting a particular agend on any given day.

The Articles of Faith
of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

  1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
  2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
  3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
  4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
  5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
  6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
  7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
  8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
  9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
  10. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may
  11. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
  12. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Do you want to elect a pastor or President?

Well; we've seen what having NO pastor has gotten us...

Comparisons of anybody to Hitler is over-the-top until or unless that individual kills 20 million people.

I'd like to thank the United States Government for protecting me and my kind.

You see, 40 years ago, my odds of making it out of the egg, alive, were very poor; about 80% of us died.

But a lady discovered our plight and wrote a book that addressed our problem,
and, in 1972, a law was ammended protecting us even further. (http://www.fws.gov/midwest/eagle/protect/laws.html)

What I find strange is that the same government passed a law the very next year that allowed for killing
of unborn, and apparently unwanted, humans.  Little ones still nestled safely in their Mother's womb.
Around 25% of them are dying before birth - on average nearly 3,300 - every day of the year.

I hear that by now, somewhere around 57 MILLION of them have perished.
Wouldn't that kind of mess up the humans plans for growth, and welfare, and
retirement?

Strange birds; these Homo Sapiens.  Perhaps they'll come to their senses
before they are ALL dead!

I pledge to vote for whomever the pub candidate is, but I would much rather have a leader such as Cruz or Rubio or a simply good man in Ben Carson.

I'm just a wee bit more discerning.

The Pubes offered me two losers in the last elections.

They'd better not try it again...

If Trump selects a religious extremist as his running mate, that would cancel my support immediately.

What is YOUR definition of 'extreme'?

I want to hear what Donald Trump’s moral/religious convictions are Christian, or not.

I want the south border secured, only Syrian Christians allowed in, no more Muslims for a very long time and those who commit horrendous crimes to not get a pass because of their religion, race or orientation. I WANT JUSTICE for a change. Do not want property taken because some alphabet group thinks a protected snail was seen there once OR because a corporation/big business wants to build a resort.

I want to be allowed my religious conscienece when I see fit. I want someone who knows the law and the constitution and loves both AND his/her country. I want someone who is truly appalled by planned parenthood’s ghoulish dissections and sales and gives abortion no quarter.

There that’s most of it.

On much of that Donald Trump was not on the right side or is not specific enough.

You are one of my favorite FReepers, Berlin Freeper, but Russell Moore gets off track easily. I wouldn’t put too much stock in what he says.

I am not voting for Trump but I think this Russell hit piece is unfair. Many a solid Christian will choose to vote for Trump while retaining all of their moral values. It has to do with how they see the future playing out and which issues they think should come first. I may disagree, but I won’t fight them with cheap shots.

The first sign of his hypocrisy int his article is that he starts with an example from “The Office.”
