Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-La.) said on Tuesday that conservatives could only win in 2016 by abandoning GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Sane conservatives need to stop enabling him, Jindal wrote in an op-ed published by CNN.
They need to stop praising him, stop being afraid of him and stop treating him rationally, he said. Conservatives need to say what we are thinking: Donald Trump is a madman who must be stopped, added Jindal, himself a Republican White House hopeful.
Jindal argued that Trump is duping voters by seeking to present himself like former President Ronald Reagan on the campaign trail.
Like a kid in a superhero costume, Trump compares himself to Ronald Reagan, wearing the Gippers slogan on his forehead as if he just thought of it, he wrote, referencing Trumps frequent insistence that he will make America great again.
But whereas Reagan was a terrible entertainer and a great statesman, Trump is a great entertainer who would be a terrible statesman, the Louisiana governor added.
Jindal also said that letting Trump become the Republican nominee would virtually guarantee a Democratic victory in the general election next year.
The problem with Donald Trump is that he will never be president, he asserted. His nomination as the Republican candidate would gift the White House to Hillary Clinton.Failure to speak out against Trump is an endorsement of Clinton.
If you want to stick it to the man so badly that you are willing to see Clinton win, vote for Trump, Jindal added. But if you want a politically conservative revolution, Im the guy who can lead it.
Jindal began assailing Trumps campaign during a scathing address at the National Press Club in Washington last week.
Trump countered by stating that he only responds to people that register more than 1 percent in the polls.
Jindal ranks 14th out of 16prominent Republican White House hopefuls, with less than 1 percent, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average..
Trump, in contrast, commands first place with the support of 29.8 percent of Republican voters nationwide.
And obama is a.nice guy in a little bit pver his head
Oh ya...he is still at the kiddie.table
no hyperbole there...
I used to like Jindal.
Not anymore.
As my wife was showing the meeting in Dallas last night, we were both impressed with the crowds.
What concerns me is that there have been other leaders with great crowds. They did not work out well.
I can understand this obsession of Jindal’s to beclown himself.
He’ll never lay a glove on the Trumpster.
The problem with Donald Trump is that he will never be president,
The problem with Bobby Jindal is that he is a completely incompetent governor who will, fortunately, never be president.
He’s beginning to sound like Glenn Beck.
Jindal would get a lot farther if he attacked the Democrats as boldly as Trump does.
And Trump would be far less of a menace if the GOP-E would stop attacking him. Attacking Trump makes you look like a despicable tool of the GOP-E.
Romney had big crowds. Same people showed up for romney but they got stabbed by him when he would not fight. These crowds want to win at something. A 30 year losing streak sucks
The RINOS are revealing themselves.
This is why the GOP must be destroyed. They are again putting party over country.
And again, I am not a Trump fan. And I just wish Cruz would leave that sewer.
“What concerns me is that there have been other leaders with great crowds. They did not work out well.”
While others worked out extremely well.
The anchor baby just jumped the shark.
Anyone who attacks Trump will never get my vote. Period. I don’t even support him. The complete absence of substance from what looked like a viable field of candidates is incredible. No one has an ounce of ability to campaign. Cruz is rock solid, but he’s in the background for most voters. If Trump sinks, he has an opening, but he has to show some more skillful campaigning to get beyond a focus on shoring up the religious right voters (an important group for sure, but not enough to win beyond Iowa).
If you want to win, you have to have crowds. Otherwise, you lose.
I guarantee you, losing never wins.
Im becoming more more Trump by the hour.....
