In advance of Wednesday's Republican presidential debate, conservatives are mounting a campaign to get the candidates to pledge that if elected they won't nominate moderate Supreme Court judges like Chief Justice John Roberts, and Justices David Souter and Anthony Kennedy.
"No More Roberts, Souters or Kennedys" is the rallying cry of the effort from the Judicial Crisis Network, led by Carrie Severino, a former clerk to Republican Justice Clarence Thomas. Souter retired in 2009.
The group on Monday is launching the first part of a campaign to get the GOP candidates to pledge they will name strictly Constitutional conservatives. The effort, said the group, is using the theme, "We Can't Afford More Surprises."
The group will be airing TV and digital ads in the $200,000 effort in Iowa, New Hampshire and Washington, D.C., and nationally on Salem Radio Network programs.
The effort comes after repeated court disappointments to conservatives, notably its approval of Obamacare and same sex marriage.
They mean "Robertses."
Wish we could vote to do away with Roberts.
Thanks markomalley.
What good is that? Pledges mean nothing, especially with GOPe candidates.
So Trump’s pledge to support the Pubbie Pres candidate means nothing?
Is he a GOPe? But his pledge is only as strong as his conviction to live up to the pledge. We will have to wait and see, if he doesn’t win the GOP nomination.
There’s impeachment.
In fact, I don’t see why Boner and McTurtle HAVEN’T moved to impeach Roberts. It would enable them to assist Hussein in putting another terrorist on the Court.
Not worth the paper it’s written on.
Pataki has already said he refuses to support Trump, if Trump is the nominee. Didn’t he just sign some agreement saying the opposite?
You get a Bush, your going to get a liberal judge. Lets drop
the hoax (bald face lie) that a moderate is on the fence
of conservatism and socialist liberalism. They are liberals
that don’t have the guts to admit it. Almost on is
still off, almost right is still wrong and almost conservative
is still liberal.
It was a liberal that gave us Roberts.
What’s wrong with IMPEACHING the ones we have??
the concept of pledges is inappropriate
“It would enable them to assist Hussein in putting another terrorist on the Court.”
As far as Boner, the Obaama and McTurtle are concerned
Roberts is doing a fine job. Just what they want.
The word in the business/legal circles in Cincinnati is that Boner is a womanizer. Obama no doubt has photos. I’m sure Obama has the goods on McTurtle, too.
They’re not “moderate”; they’re progressives.
“Whats wrong with IMPEACHING the ones we have??”.....
What? You want to give odumbo a chance to appoint more like those he already has appointed?
How about we wait until a real “conservative” becomes pres, and then clean house? In the end, things might turn our for the better.
The only pledge I care about is closing the borders, deporting the invaders, and cutting off all welfare to immigrants period.
All other pledges mean nothing.
(This pledge would probably mean nothing too...but it would make the socialists heads explode!)
Let me put it this way... The MOST liberal judge appointed should be Cruz - - or someone to the right of Cruz.
