Online flight tracking provides interesting details about Russian air bridge to Syria Sep 11 2015 -

By David Cenciotti

Once again, Flightradar24.com provides an insight into military operations. This time, the Russian air bridge to Syria. Some days ago we explained how everyone (including low-tech terrorists “armed” with a mobile device and an Internet connection), could have the operational equivalent of a ground-based radar detection system to predict (and avoid) U.S. airstrikes and reconnaissance missions thanks to ADS-B, Multilateration, online tracking systems and some poor OPSEC procedures.

However, American and NATO planes are not the only ones that can be tracked on the Internet: there is a widespread tendency to leave the transponder turned on while flying close or inside sensitive areas.

For instance, in the last few days, Flightradar24 exposed the Russian military airlift from Sevastopol, in Crimea, and other bases in Russia to Syria.

On Sept. 7, two A124 Condor airlifter could be tracked until landing at Latakia, Syria.

On Sept. 9, aviation enthusiasts from all around the world tracked as much as five An-124 Condor airlifters heading towards Syria. An additional one could be tracked on Sept. 10.

Unlike the flights tracked on the previous days, the six cargo planes spotted on Sept. 9 and 10 took an easterly roundabout route to avoid the airspaces of Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria and Cyprus, closed to Russian aircraft supporting the military buildup in Syria.

According to several sources, at least four aircraft went through Iran/Iraq.

RA-82040-2015-09-10_21_47 An-124 on roundabout route Sept. 10 Interestingly, aviation enthusiasts monitored also some Syrian Air flights of IL-76 carrying registration YK-ATA that, on Aug 22 and 28, made roundtrip flights from Latakia to Moscow on the easterly Iran/Iraq route.

Not only are An-124s flown to Syria lately. Other Russian flights from Russia to Syria include an Il-62, RA-86496, and EMERCOM (Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations) Il-76, RA-76429: the first one visited Latakia on Aug. 12, 28 and on Sept. 7, using a route via Bulgaria, and on Sept. 10, using a route via Belarus – Poland – Serbia that avoided closed airspaces.

I will take a look. Sounds interesting.

Strange moving troops from Crimea to Syria. Sounds like not enough troops to go around? But i’m probably completely wrong on that one.

Another thing that strikes me is the number of conventional wars that have been and are being waged since the dawn of the nuclear age.

Though I know it helped avoid the BIG ONE in Europe between USSR and us, there still have been quite a few.

Trying to think of two nuclear powers have fought each other since. Pakistan and India?

Used to be (before Muslims ruled the western political class) that over-flying a country by a military plane carrying military supplies to invade another country WAS itself an act of war.

Then again, used to be, we had a president who didn’t hate and oppose his own country.

It was noted on other sites today that the unit the Russians are moving to Syria seems to be from the Naval Infantry Regiment (Marines) that was involved in the Crimean takeover.

That would make sense if they are going to secure Tartus.

Had to look up Tartus. :)

Thanks for the information.

Who is our dog in a fight between Russians and ISIS? I know there are many different rebel groups fighting and I trust none of them.

At least with Assad, you knew where you stood, or I could be wrong. Confusing issue to me.

“Who is our dog in a fight between Russians and ISIS?”

Depends on your meaning of the word “Our”.

Do you mean the best interests of he American People?

Or “our” as in the Obama Administration and the Muzzie Brohood members in his inner circle?

The key to ISIS is, and always has been, Raqqa. A couple of days of B-52 mass bombings and A-10 attacks, and ISIS would have been history. Obama could have ended ISIS anytime he chose to.

Russia and China during the Amur River dispute in the 60’s.

He is never included when I use “our”.

He is a traitorous odd mix of gay supporting/muslim supporting/socialist leaning America hater.

The MB I spit on.

How could 52 percent of a population be so ignorant!!!

Now our only hope is an insane narcissist. though that covers a lot of the candidates :)

Read up on it as I was not familiar at all with this dispute.

Very interesting. I’m surprised it didn’t spiral, and more surprised i never heard of it once!

One of the perks of FR.

The Russian strategy is “No bridge is too far” when it comes to their military interests.

Putin does. Obama does not. That is the difference between these two Marxists. One is Marxist-Heavy. The other is Marxist-Lite with a yellow streak up his back.

When I have logged into Flightradar24.com I believe they claimed they do not cover military frequencies so as to keep the military flights to keep from being tracked...

It was actually quite bloody from what I remember. There were also rumors although not confirmed that American intelligence detected evidence of tactical nukes being used to disperse Chinese troop formations.

Wow!! Deployed or actually used? geez.

Not sure what a tactical nuke is really.

Small enough to use on a battlefield?

Could soldiers fight while they are being used or are they strictly air force and none of your units can be in the vicinity?

Tactical nuke = small nuke for the battlefield
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tactical_nuclear_weapon

They were supposedly used but that was never confirmed. What is known is that the parties involved all of a sudden decided to ratchet down the hostilities. Make of that what you will.

Fascinating stuff!!

Great website.

There used to be rumors that the soviets already had men and suitcase nukes in the States. Dont know if that was myth or truth either.
