Displaced Disney Cast Member: How They Replaced Me, Other Americans, With Cheap Foreigners On H1B...

As a patriotic and proud citizen of the United States, I have a story to share that has not only impacted my family, hundreds of colleagues, but also current and future United States workers.

I used to have a dream career at one of Americas most iconic and admired companies. Twenty years of hard work, technical skill building, the fostering of relationships and a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology guided me to a coveted position as an Information Technology Engineer for Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

On a sunny Monday morning in late October of 2014 I drove down the interstate toward the huge 40 square mile Disney Orlando, Florida property to my office. Ten days earlier Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, had just announced that the company’s earnings were up well over 20 percent for the quarter and this was just one among a long series of record breaking financial results for the company. About six months earlier, a new CIO, Tilak Mandadi, was appointed for the Parks and Resorts Division of Disney, which would result in huge changes to our lives. Little did I know what was about to happen that very same day to me and hundreds of other fellow Disney Information Technology Cast Members.

“Avoid the prose. Just tell me how much more you want me to pay in taxes.”

Are you a hedge fund manager?

“The bottom line is that Disney’s IT dept was dysfunctional. They were the IT laughing stock of Fortune 500. Those employees weren’t entitled to their jobs no matter how badly they sucked, I don’t care what the union says otherwise.

Disney’s IT dept needed pink slips, and lots of them.”

And you know this how? Solid proof please.

Sorry, I just don’t buy into the proletariat being entitled to their jobs.

Neither do I, but I learned a long time ago that a bright, motivated, dedicated manager will make his company a profit...and every manager that isn't will lie, cheat, and steal to make it look like he does.

As for ESPN/ABC, college ball... etc, no worries. I wouldn't know a football bat from a basketball goalie.

So, in reality, you put the cart ahead of the horse: it’s not me that is resisting market forces. It’s the domestic resources who won’t bring up their game to compete with offshore.

Yawn...doing jobs Americans won't do...right...

“Not Happy Holidays; Merry Christmas”

Respectfully, I disagree. As a former castmember, I have 11 tree ornaments, for each year, I was there. 1990-94 they say “Family Christmas Party”, after 1995 it is “Family Holiday Party”.

When they opened a new administration building, in 1996, my department was located next to Casting (HR). That year an HR Rep almost choked over her departing comment to me, on 12/24. Finally, I said “Merry Christmas, Sue”. She gratefully replied “Same to you, I have to be sooo careful what I say, these days”.

Nope. Doing the jobs that Americans won’t do WELL and will ask for a ridiculous sum of money to do a poor job. THAT would be accurate.

I’m guessing you’re one of the folks that isn’t quite up to snuff, otherwise you’d get it.

Try this, from Disney Travel Professionals Facebook: when Disney announced Free Dining, it’s IT servers for travel agents collapsed:

Best comment, “let’s face it, if we did our jobs like Disney IT, we’d all be fired.”

Personal experience, Disney replaced its web portal for its timeshare system on the busiest booking day of the year (the day booking for Christmas became avail). It crashed. Hours later, they restored the old user interface.

Oh, I "get it" just fine. I also know what they "ask for" is an excuse along with the rest of the script used to justify oneself to oneself.

If you’re like 100% of the Disney workers I know, you voted for liberal Democrats and open borders agenda.

BTW - you’re a racist for complaining.

Now shut your bigoted face and go pay your taxes. Your hard working government is broke. :)

Welcome to the party pal... This is why you need to get out of your inside the beltway bubble... read the article at Breitbart , this isn’t an “isolated incident” it is abusing the H1B visa program ,, ILLEGALLY gaming the system to replace qualified American workers with lower cost workers PERIOD... You asked me why my 30+ years of IT experience gives me credibility on this subject? You’re a clown.

I recognized long ago the analogy between Republican politicians and professional American managers is extremely close. They both blame self inflicted problems and incompetence on subordinates whenever possible.

The only thing that shuts them up is a direct superior.

Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but if the IT department sucked ‘Big Time’ - how was it they were good enough to train their replacements?

That’s union propaganda. Showing people SOP, current procedure, and policy isn’t the same thing as teaching someone IT.

“Union Propaganda” seems to be your “magic wand.”

Since when does a company need to have the person on-the-job give orientation to new hires, so much so that they’ll make severance pay contingent on it?

Disney didn’t hire the H1Bs, it needed to fire the old IT staff, and they responded to public opinion. Anything else is union drivel.

There's a lot of drivel all right. But I don't think it's from the union.

If there's one thing modern American managers from the corporate culture are well versed in, it's denying the manifestly obvious through plausible deniability.
