With shackles around her ankles and waist, this is the moment the defiant Kentucky clerk who is refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses was led away from federal court - and taken to jail.
Kim Davis, 49, was told by U.S. District Judge David Bunning on Thursday that she would stay behind bars until she complied with his order to resume issuing the licenses to gay couples.
Donning a blue top and striped skirt, Davis, a thrice-divorced Apostolic Christian who works at Rowan County Courthouse, said 'thank you' before being led from the courtroom by a marshal.
She later insisted that she would not accept a compromise that would allow her out of jail. Attorneys for the plaintiffs had proposed to the court that Davis be freed if she promised not to interfere with her deputies. But Davis refused - noting her name would still be on the licenses.

He has many other options. He went hard liberal.
SCOTUS cannon make law! They can only judge existing law. This decision is tyranny!
I’ve noticed that too, many think she stand down and just “do her job”. I have more than rebuttal to that-first of all, of she has to obey a federal law, then so do the so-called “sanctuary cities”, but I don’t see any of the leaders of those cities in shackles being lead to jail. Secondly, if Christians don’t start standing up for Biblical truth jow, when do we start? We’ve already shrugged our shoulders (other than reams of words) regarding the Christian business owners who are being persecuted for not choosing to be a part of sodomite mirage celebrations-it’s not that they won’t serve sodomite customers in a regular capacity, they just won’t participate in specifically sodomite celebrations of specifically sodomite events. What are waiting for to react en masse, Christian pastors being thrown in jail for preaching The Word against homosexuality? Christians being thrown in jail for expressing their personal Biblical views on homosexuality? They’re already being dired from their jobs just for holding a private thought opposing homosexuality-a “thought crime”, even if they hire homosexuals to work for them. What are we waiting for? What has to happen before we act as a group?
I do.
He had the option to fine her whatever the minimum is and to determine what the repeat multiplier would be until she complied. He didn’t because he didn’t want flak from queers that he didn’t do anything - so he jailed her. He was afraid that her fines would be paid by a whole crap load of people. Yes, I blame him. Most certainly.
They do it all the time in ignoring the non-enforcement of immigration law.
After his ruling, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said ‘the success of our democracy depends on the rule of law, and there’s no public official that is above the rule of law’.
Only a constitutional moron is going to be wishing an American Democracy success. That would be the failure of the Republic and the end of America, and the beginning of amerika.
...and it sure looks like the democracy has won.
He could have quietly revolted while she refused to comply. The decision to put her in jail was his and his alone.
He simply could have reprimanded her and then declined to use compulsion to enforce the order -— basically ignoring the SC but in a way they could do nothing about it.
Simlaly the Feds generally depend on local authorities to keep prisoners. The local sheriff could simply remand her to her home with no restrictions.
He’s just rubbing it in our noses, because he knows full well that this administration and its minions enforce laws when they choose to, and don’t when they choose not to. He know this, and he knows that we know it.
This episode clearly demonstrates two things to me:
1. If you're a non-Liberal and you stand against Liberalism, nobody is coming to your aid. As despicable as Liberals are, they take care of each other. If this woman was a Liberal martyr, there would be thousands of protesters, Lib celebrities, and Lib politicians ON LOCATION standing by her side.
Where are our Christian leaders? Hello, Franklin Graham? Anybody?
2. American Christians will never..... NEVER.... rise up, stand up, rebel, fight, or resist in any meaningful way against the destruction of their values and even their own religion. It's really breathtaking how submissive Christians have become. With all the bluster and whining and complaining on this forum, with all the platitudes about "the coming war," this episode clearly demonstrates that it's all just trash talking. Nobody is going to do anything.
I've said it before: American Christians can't, and won't, defend even their own churches.
It's why Trump is so popular. He's not pandering to the church lady crowd and merely gave lip service to reading the Bible. American Christians have shown the country and the world how weak and apathetic they really are.
You are correct. I hope that one day judges and other officials are held legally liable and face appropriate, legally sanctioned penalties for what they have done.
They deserve scorn as well.
I think he went all in on the law, and lib or otherwise who is going to argue with the judge and win? Unfortunately someone better come up with an idea or poor Davis “the thrice divorced” (I just loved that comment by the DM) is going to rot in jail.
I heard one news report describe her as a Democrat. If so, it's interesting the Daily Mail left that out.
'Course, if she was a Republican, the description would've been, The Republican Davis, a thrice-divorced Republican Apostolic Republican Christian Republican.....
But that’s not to say a New Revolution Court can’t one day impose a ‘harsh’ sentence. :0)
Funny how they only go all in on the law when it supports liberals though.
He could have as easily said “I will give her the same punishment Holder and Lerner got”
He did not.
“1. If you’re a non-Liberal and you stand against Liberalism, nobody is coming to your aid. “
Thats what spreading lesser evil throughout the righ resulted in.
Blame the people that did it. Right here and elsewhere. They caused this. PERSIONALLY.
I don't think it's going to happen.
