While the tweeted images have no landmarks on the ground as reference points, the Iranian state-sponsored FARS news agency released a report that Syrian aircraft bombed opposition forces in Idlib, including al-Nusra fighters on Wednesday.
The possible sighting of Russian aircraft in Syrian skies comes just two days after the Jerusalem-based newspaper YNET released a report indicating that Russian pilots and aircraft would be arriving in Syria in the coming days with the purported mission of flying airstrikes against the Islamic State and opposition forces that are threatening the Assad regime.

It's been repeatedly reported that equipment shipments to Syria from Russia Doubled this summer.
The Ceasefire/Surrender of rebels in Damascus itself, where there has been heavy fighting for well over a year, is a prime example.
What was a bitter stalemate suddenly turned in Assad's favor over the course of about ten days.
Does Putin intend to take the fight to ISIS directly? (Doing the job that Obama refuses to do)
The Russians are flatly denying that any of their troops are participating in combat "directly" in the Ukraine.
The Russians are flatly denying that any of their troops are participating in combat "directly" in Crimea.
More Biblical prophecy being fulfilled?
After 3 years, I still can’t figure out what Obama’s plan for Syria is.
Basis what I see so far, his plan is simply to drive hundreds of thousands of refugees to Europe, and turn Syria into a Jihadi wasteland.
I have been saying for quite some time that the most dangerous flash-point in the world was in Syria.
Obama was humiliated by Putin and made to stand down and cancel a planned strike against Assad. (the chemical weapons standoff)
Obama is a petulant child and I just know he is going to misjudge and overplay his hand in Syria soon. He is unfit for the game of super-power brinkmanship.... he will push us over the brink in Syria before this is finished.
A good way to explain the coming economic collapse is to blame it on the Russians after a major war breaks out...otherwise all fingers will point to his poor leadership.
Yes.
POS Obama is an on-going disaster.
Just depends on what the meaning of is is.....
precisely
Arab countries need a dictator as they have never been accustomed to freedom. Witness Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, etc.....I hate to say it but the best of all possible worlds is Assad at the present time. Look what happened to Libya after Qaddafi’s departure. Once again, the problem is the religion; Islam leaves nothing for rational thought or government as it is a false world view based on an epileptic child abuser, thief and murderer.
= :^)
The old USSR had a more pronounced presence in the 60s - 90s.
It wasn’t a good dynamic.
Yes, I can see some reason to think this might have some benefit. The result will not work out that way IMO.
Nothing much good will come of Russian intervention there.
Even if they stabilize Syria, which I have no problem with, they will remain. Knowing the region, we will have to take actions from time to time. A Russian dynamic to that won’t be good.
Russia has it’s fingers in Syria and Egypt now. That is not a good situation.
I listened to a Bishop from Syria on the radio at the beginning of the conflict begging the west to stay out of Syria and not support the rebels. He said that the Christians and Jews were safe under Assad, and that Muslim countries don’t work with democracy well.
Look how the Christian population almost disappeared in Iraq after democracy.
I agree.
Pretty sure all or almost all Jews left under the first Assad. Maybe someone can fill us in.
I’m okay with Russia getting involved. Assad is a bad person, but all other sides in Syria are far worse. I trust Putin to do what is best for Russia, and that is likely far better for America than anything Obama would support.
If Putin wants to take out ISIS why stand in his way?
I’d rather see Russians fighting alongside Assad than ISIS beheading Christian babies. Since Obama chooses the path of bleating from behind and not confronting ISIS beyond a few token strikes, he needs to sit down and STFU.
This has a significant effect on refugee resettlement and how that affects the coming plans for the US to take in more Syrian refugees.
Because of this civil war of sunni trying to topple the shia govt and the shia govt attacking sunni, displaced Christians & Shia in Syria stay away from the refugee camps, which are consequently mostly Sunni.
When the US takes in refugees, religion is not used as a criteria and the refugees come from the UN refugee camps. So many are complaining that there will be very few Christians amongst the refugees from Syria.
OTOH, there is a privately funded underground railroad moving Christians out of Syria, or into shia controlled parts of Syria.
