The old USSR had a more pronounced presence in the 60s - 90s.
It wasn’t a good dynamic.
Yes, I can see some reason to think this might have some benefit. The result will not work out that way IMO.
Nothing much good will come of Russian intervention there.
Even if they stabilize Syria, which I have no problem with, they will remain. Knowing the region, we will have to take actions from time to time. A Russian dynamic to that won’t be good.
Russia has it’s fingers in Syria and Egypt now. That is not a good situation.
