The Kentucky county clerk who made herself a national celebrity by refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses was jailed Thursday for contempt of court.
Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis was taken into custody by U.S. marshals, according to reporters on the scene.
In sending her to jail, U.S. District Judge David Bunning ignored the American Civil Liberties Union's request that Davis be fined to compel compliance with orders that she issue marriage licenses.
ACLU attorney Heather Weaver, who is working on the case, said there was testimony about fundraising efforts on Davis' behalf, apparently a factor in the judge's decision not to impose financial penalties.

Why aren’t there thousands of armed Christians beating down the jail door? Where is the Kentucky Militia? Her religious liberties, as guaranteed by the 1st Amendment, have been violated, and yet here we sit, thumbs in our noses. We might as well kneel and accept our chains. Shameful.
I am so furious about this, I am basically speechless...
If this was a Muslim standing up for their beliefs and jailed there would be riots.
