Second Amendment groups are accusing the gun control lobby of putting law-abiding owners of firearms in danger by urging people to call the police on anyone carrying a gun in public.
As more states relax rules about open-carrying of guns, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence has taken to social media to urge the public to assume gun-toters are trouble, and to call the cops on anyone they feel may be a threat.

“To your post on both treads, I say:”
Well being a wise Nreeper, noble and good in all ways, you could say no less! ;)
Two can play. With a little effort the true identity of “moron@aol.com” can be gleaned. Mostly, living in mom’s basement. An anonymous tip about a heroin dealer could demonstrate to them the error of their ways...
Or even FREEPER...
Really time to get new glasses methinks...
I agree but ultimately it’s a numbers game. In the old west, everyone carried. It served to deter. Today it would serve the same purpose and be effective. But at the moment, the one OC is a standout, not the norm. More should OC.
Here in AZ, my local corner store guy and his wife OC. Everyone knows it. They have never been robbed. Their non carrying evening crew has been robbed several times. Because everyone knows that too.
But they get to choose what they do when they get there.
“Every single instructor of mine has advised that open-carry means visible target. It defies even the most basic Art of War concept of concealment and reveals your fog of war to everybody.”
10000% agreed. In an armed robbery or mass shooting you would be the first target. Neutralize the wolf first to get the sheep
You just gotta wonder what’s going on. The Left (Satan) loves chaos. Once the government became unmoored from the Constitution, we entered into anarchy. The Police are just exercising their will to power. They’re in direct conflict with both the black criminal class (driven by Marxist agitators) and sovereign citizens. Police want to control society, black criminals want free stuff, Marxists want revenge, sovereign citizens want to live their lives without interference or hassle. The only two that can coexists are black criminals and Marxists and they’re really one in the same. The police (not all but most) are useful idiots.
The question isn't about tactics, it is about rights and pushing back laws that dictate those rights. Having the right to make the decision itself is the issue, not which has a better tactical application.
Personally, I would prefer to not ever appear vulnerable, whether I'm carrying or not. Why would you want to invite trouble?
That being said, there are those who would might covet the weapon you're displaying so prominently - why tempt them?
You mention “fog of war” so allow me to introduce the concept that the war we are fighting occurs at multiple levels. Yes there is the tactical one on one or street level where displaying your firearm MAY make you a high priority target. It also has the possibility of deterrent as most criminals are looking for easy victims.
There is also a higher level more strategic “war” that deals with the psychology of arms where the vast majority of the public has been trained by the liberals to be terrified of any and all firearms. This means that the liberals are in a power position when they go to seek further restrictions against gun owners. That needs to change.
The much more desirable position is for the population to NOT be afraid of the private ownership of and carrying of firearms. One of the paths to get to that level of perception is to provoke discussion with the public. By open carrying, it shows that portion of the public that is not violently opposed to the 2nd Amendment, that the People can be trusted with firearms and it is not limited to Police.
If we can reverse the liberal push to make the People afraid of firearms, then we can start to remove some of the ridiculous gun laws that they have pushed. It will also move the population to be more self reliant as it will chip away at the reliance on the police for their self defense. This attitude of self reliance works to reduce the socialist agenda of the left.
Au contraire! How many times has it been pointed out they are NOT obligated to respond to any specific call, if at all?
If it had been me, my first response to the idiot would be to say that the lib was obviously a liar or stupid, because if my wearing a gun was really 'frightened' the idiot, he wouldn't be standing there yelling at me.
I agree with most of what you said. The perception of fear factor by the good, law-abiding public, is shameful and needs to be corrected. Hard to do that when you have 110% of the media behind the idea of “gun control” and a literal wave of evil enveloping our entire society, with guns being the tools used in those murders.
I honestly wish every state had open carry laws and permit holders had those holsters proudly displayed on my frequent grocery trips. The more the merrier and it would deter the evil SOB thugs from even pondering violence.
Currently, the climate just isn’t right for it—IMHO.
Had a friend who open-carried all the time. Guy came up to him once and asked him if he was a cop, he replied “no, are you a criminal?”. He did say that the usual suspect thugs kept their distance from him when he was strolling about minding his own business.
CNN is still on their anti-gun kick. They just finished another long segment with the father of the VA reporter who was killed.
Well said and true.
This is guaranteed to infuriate police, who do not like to be trifled with. 911 will record their call and who made it. Done once, they will be warned. Twice and there will be an angry cop at their door.
If you see a gun control zealot in public and have ANY doubts about their intent, call 911 immediately and ask police to come to the scene. Never put your safety, or the safety of your loved ones, at the mercy of gun control zealots in public with little or no criminal and/or mental health screening.
Much better.
