NBC ^ | August 31, 2015 | Pete Williams

Posted on 08/31/2015 11:43:17 AM PDT by don-o

The U.S. Supreme Court this week faces the first religious objection to reach the justices since the decision declaring a constitutional right to same-sex marriage.

A county clerk in Kentucky is asking for relief from a lower court order directing her to issue marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples. Her lawyers filed an emergency application directed to Justice Elena Kagan, who handles such requests from that part of the country.

Precisely. She doesn’t have a legal leg to stand on here and will lose her case.

Sometimes your job changes. If she was a hardcore vegetarian and anti-hunting and her job changed such that she was now to give out hunting licenses and refused would you support her? The job is the job, if you don’t like it leave it. She isn’t required to violate her conscience, she’s free to leave.

No they shouldn’t. If she won’t do the job she won’t do the job and she should leave or get fired. The last thing any governments is to double down on its pencil pushers because some people object to filling out certain forms for certain people. She’s just a clerk, her job is to make sure the form is filled out correctly and follows the current laws of the land, sign it off and file it. It’s not to make judgements, it’s not to apply morality, validate, sign it, file it. If she won’t do that she shouldn’t have the job.

They can fire her for her Christian beliefs and practices. Why all the drama? I know. They don’t TECHNICALLY want to fire her. They want her to quit. She shouldn’t have to quit. They are choosing to elevate immorality to favored status and to punish a Christian for her continued stand against immorality.

What do you want? Jail the Christian? Fine the Christian? Both?

They wouldn’t be firing her for her beliefs and practices. They would be firing her for her unwillingness to do her job.

I want people to do their job. More importantly I don’t want people to inflict their judgements on other people via their job.
I don’t want members of PETA refusing to process hunting and fishing licenses because they’re against hunting and fishing.
I don’t want anti-gun people refusing to process CCWs because they’re against private ownership of guns.
I don’t want environuts refusing to process camping permits because they think camping harms the environment.
And I don’t want anybody refusing to process marriage licenses because they don’t think these two people should get married.

It’s not their call to make. Let the people actually doing the active verb deal with the moral repercussions, and the clerks should just follow the laws and procedures surrounding the paperwork.

They most certainly would be firing her for her beliefs and practices. She has done her job for a long time. They are making new immoral demands and refusing to accommodate.

United States of Gomorrah: Christians need not apply for government jobs. They are discriminated against in order to elevate immorality to special protected status.

USG: Where government rules your conscience. No longer let the Governor of the Universe inform your conscience. That could land you in jail.

USG: Where we don’t know the difference between male and female. We don’t know where babies come from. We don’t know what a human family is. And we don’t know what a baby is. And we traffic in baby body parts, though we don’t acknowledge it is a baby.

No, she USED to do her job, now she refuses. Which is what will get her fired.

United States of do your damn job, anybody that thinks their job goes against their morals need not apply, and if some aspect of the job changes there’s the door.

She’s basically facing the same situation as the Muslim cabbies that refused to transport people with alcohol. They lost for the exact same reasons she will.

You are wrong! This is such a scam.

First they said it was just about getting their sodomy without be arrested.

Then they demanded “states rights’ when they wanted to overturn the federal DOMA and stop a federal marriage amendment.

Then they fought state amendments saying laws were enough.

Then they sued everyone everywhere until they go 5 justices against 4 justices to make this a federal mandate.

Now they want to rob Christians of jobs and conscience to service their nastiness. What happened to state’s rights? Kentucky voted to define marriage as between one man and one woman. This entire thing is garbage. It is oppressive. It is choosing immorality over morality.

Your freeper page says people can figure out the social issues without you. That you are not interested. You look interested to me. Was that just another phony incremental con job like all the other social liberals in the world?

This isn’t really a social issue. This is an understanding reality issue. It’s not your boss’ job to help you enact your moral code. If something about your job goes against your moral code you need to find another job. Just like Muslim cabbies transporting alcohol. It is quite simply not her call to make. It would be the same if she objected to divorcees getting married. It would be the same if she objected to people not wanting kids getting married. It would be the same if she was against an atheist against religious people getting married because then they’re going to raise kids in that religion. None of those are her call to make. Her job is to process the paperwork, if she won’t do it she should leave.

There’s no scam about it. She refuses to do her job. This is what happens to people who won’t do their job.

Yes it has been a scam from the get go. Big shock. People with perverted sexual habits also pervert other truths.

Homosexuality is deviancy at its core. It is also a clear admission of being attracted to yourself. You get out of the shower, look in the mirror, and OOH BABY! It’s like personal pornography. Creepy.

None of which has anything to do with the fact that she is refusing to do her job.

Do you think it was OK for the Muslim cab drivers to refuse to transport alcohol?

She has done her job. A rogue court is trying to force her to change her job. They should make an accommodation. They are the ones trying to say up is down and down is up. Let them make accommodations.

Courts in the past have made other bad rulings. Perhaps you think the states should have submitted to the Dred Scott ruling. When one judge makes the difference in a fundamental definition of society he causes social chaos. That is why the decision should have been left to the people, not the judges. These activists seeking licenses were probably the very ones demanding states’ right just a short time ago. Deviant con artists.

We still have a First Amendment. I know you Gaystapo types want to overturn that, but as of yet, it still exists.

“We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” — John Adams

“Arbitrary power is most easily established on the ruins of liberty abused to licentiousness.” — President George Washington, 1753

Patrick Henry, “Power is the great evil with which we are contending. We have divided power between three branches of government and erected checks and balances to prevent abuse of power. However, where is the check on the power of the judiciary? If we fail to check the power of the judiciary, I predict that we will eventually live under judicial tyranny.”

“The judiciary of the United States is the subtle corps of sappers and miners constantly working under ground to undermine the foundations of our confederated fabric. They are construing our constitution from a co-ordination of a general and special government to a general and supreme one alone.” —Thomas Jefferson

“Religion is the only solid basis of good morals; therefore education should teach the precepts of religion, and the duties of man toward God.” — Gouverneur Morris, writer of much of the U.S. Constitution, 1752-1816

[A] good moral character is the first essential in a man... and your conduct here may stamp your character through life. It is therefore highly important that you should endeavor not only to be learned but virtuous.” —George Washington

“Republics are created by the virtue, public spirit, and intelligence of the citizens. They fall, when the wise are banished from the public councils, because they dare to be honest, and the profligate are rewarded, because they flatter the people, in order to betray them.” —Joseph Story

1856 - The new Republican party selected for its national platform a call to abolish the “Twin Relics of Barbarism, Slavery and Polygamy.”

“Society has always regarded marital love as a sacred expression of the bond between a man and a woman. It is the means by which families are created and society itself is extended into the future. In the Judeo-Christian tradition it is the means by which husband and wife participate with God in the creation of a new human life. It is for these reasons, among others, that our society has always sought to protect this unique relationship. In part the erosion of these values has given way to a celebration of forms of expression most reject. We will resist the efforts of some to obtain government endorsement of homosexuality.” — President Ronald Reagan, July 12, 1984

I would face my maker fine, “Give to Ceasar what is Ceasar’s.”

You might realize the deeper meaning of that passage - Caesar literally owns nothing that is not God's before him... not even the breath in his nostrils belongs to Caesar.

That is an incorrect interpretation of that passage, but not surprising as most who Christ preached to directly failed to understand that he was preparing and worrying about their eternal salvation and souls not about the rewards while here on earth.

2000 years later, and still people can’t seem to figure that out.

She has done her job. Then the job changed. Now she won’t do it.

I’m in software QA. I absolutely refuse to work on software that could kill somebody if I miss a bug. That mean I don’t work on medical software, and I don’t work on software that moves metal. Period. My career has gone very nicely for 20 years that way. If tomorrow my company bought a medical software company and transferred me over to it I would go find another job.

We all have our decisions to make. But we don’t get to have those decisions go without consequences. I understand her position, but she needs to understand it has consequences. If she absolutely refuses to hand our marriage licenses to gay couple then there are consequences.

Many states did submit to Dred Scott. And the ones that didn’t followed legal means to get around it.

The First Amendment doesn’t protect you from consequences. She’s free to speak out, and she’s free to seek other employment.
