The anti-Trump angst grows
The Washington Post ^ | August 30, 2015 | Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 08/30/2015 1:49:25 PM PDT by EveningStar

Republican operatives, insiders affiliated with no campaign and donors with whom Right Turn spoke last week are not pleased about the state of the GOP race. They will say something like: “Yeah, it’s early. Yeah, Rudy Giuliani never became president. But still.” They will tell you public polling is exaggerated, although internal polling shows him leading. They are angst-ridden over Donald Trump’s staying power, but more than that, the inability of the other candidates to respond effectively and present themselves as an effective alternative.

These Republicans, on one hand, despair that an egocentric bully with no discernible political principles should be leading in polls. They observe that his incoherent mix of authoritarianism, protectionism and cronyism is antithetical to the modern conservative movement, and in tone is 180 degrees from Ronald Reagan. But they also note that he is building an organization and displaying “P.T. Barnum showmanship,” as one veteran of GOP presidential campaigns put it. They shake their heads, unable to fully comprehend Trump’s appeal, but more than that they are disturbed by the rest of the field. They do not believe Trump will be the nominee, but high hopes for a deep, quality field have not been met. In particular, they are worried that Trump’s embrace of “nativism” will doom the party if mimicked by others.

Jennifer Rubin writes the Right Turn blog for The Post,
offering reported opinion from a RINO perspective. There, it needed a correction in the byline.

I’m unsurprised that they don’t get it.

It comes down to the following question, for most candidates (other than Cruz):

Who do you trust more - a person that has lied to get elected (Rubio), and may well being lying again (as if Walker would ever build a wall, for example), or a person that may be lying today, based on positions in his past when he wasn’t a candidate or office holder (and many/most of those supposed liberal positions can be debunked)?

Jennifer Rubin is from New Jersey and graduated from UC Berzerkley. Well, that explains alot of why she is a RINO.

Political principles? POLITICAL PRINCIPLES?

Talk about an oxymoron.

Yeah, well, um, I don’t think ‘angst’ is a/the word that applies.

Haven’t seen any reports of anyone in the country, state, city, or towns running around yelling “ANGST, ANGST, ANGST!”.

I’m “angstist” to get rid of the press, as it is, has devolved to .

I can save everybody a click to the Washington Compost by summarizing the Jennifer Rubin's column as follows:

Despair not, GOPe establishment. For Trump is already beginning to lose his luster. Why Ben Carson is only five points behind him in Iowa! Also, Jebbie Bush is starting to "sharpen his message" and he's got lot's of money to get his message out. Yes, there's a lot of conservatives upset with the GOP out there but don't let that bother you. They don't make the decisions around here. They always waste their time supporting "hopeless" candidates like Sarah Palin, Herman Cain and Michelle Bachmann. So hang in there GOPe, Trump is about out of gas, just give it some time and you will have your hand-picked establishment candidate after all.

Hopefully I saved you all a click but go ahead and click through anyway if you want to see for yourself.

And the final, MOST IMPORTANT, question:

Who do you trust on Immigration, someone that is definitely compromised (Walker, Rubio, and most of the others), someone that may be partially compromised (Cruz, due to H1B’s), or something who is not compromised, cannot be compromised, but may be lying to get elected?

Tough questions...but Trump still wins.

Take away the celebrity-besotted, the non-voters, and the single-issue opponents of immigration, and you’re left with a group of conservatives who deeply dislike what they see as a spineless Republican establishment. These voters never determine the nominee…

It is this condescension that has produced Trump.

The political principle he keeps espousing is doing what's best for America. I can see why they would find that an alien concept.

We’ll see how Carson holds up. He did prove in the last debate that he can deliver a joke...not sure if that qualifies him. And he does have a lot of Republicans wanting to tease the Dems by being able to say “Our black is better than your black!”, but whether he’s up to the job will be interesting to find out. In the recent past, he has stumbled over the Second Amendment, for example.

Funny thing is, considering Trump’s left wing history and lack of conservatism, I’d figure he’d be right up Rubin’s alley.

What the heck did they expect? They backed a candidate who said he wanted to win without the conservative base and then insulted and alienated said base. Now they are wondering why their candidate is not getting any real support outside of a few wealthy donors desperately hoping to realIze some ROI on a loser.

To make it worse, bush is doubling down on stupid. No conservative is going to back that GOPe bastard under any circumstance at this point. It’s over!
