Donald Trump: 'This is a movement'
The Politico ^ | August 29 2015 | Ben Schreckinger

The billionaire real estate mogul uses a Nashville speech to emphasize his campaign is about more than him.

Donald Trump says it’s not all about him. No, seriously.

Campaigning in Nashville, Tennessee, Trump on Saturday paid homage to his supporters — claiming they are a part of “a movement” and using colorful language to beg for their support.

“This is a movement,” said Trump, who often speaks about himself in campaign appearances. “I don’t want it to be about me. This is about common sense. It’s about doing the right thing.”

Trump also paid tribute to his setting, a country music hotbed and insisted there needed to be a greater emphasis on "law and order." And, as has become customary, he took shots at Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor who is a rival for the Republican nomination.

Beyond the bragging, Trump’s appearance represented something more tangible: evidence of a campaign that has grown more tactically serious as it wears on.

His speech — full, as ever, with a mix of taunts and asides — was in front of the Presidential Presence Convention of the National Federation of Republican Assemblies. The group that describes itself as “a grassroots movement of Republicans that seeks to restore the conservative principles of the Goldwater / Reagan Republicans.”

In other words, the sorts of Republicans whose support Trump will have to solidify as the nominating contest continues. On Sunday, Ted Cruz’s father Rafael Cruz is scheduled to lead a prayer breakfast at the convention.

While Trump claimed to be vessel for something bigger, he used long stretches of his speech to tout his smarts, his business savvy and his “vision.”

One point of emphasis — and opportunity for a shot at Bush — was foreign policy.

“I said don’t go into Iraq even though I’m a very militaristic person,” he said. “I’m much more militaristic than Bush, even the brother.”

Trump said he deserved credit for predicting that the war would go poorly.

“Normally I wouldn’t say this, but I need your frickin’ votes, you understand that?” he said to cheers.

Mixed in with Trump’s talk of a “silent majority” was a call for “law and order.” He decried the rioting that took place in Baltimore in April in response to the death of a young black man in police custody.

“The police were not allowed to protect people,” said Trump. “We have to be tough. We have to be smart … I know cities where police are afraid to even talk to people.”

Trump said he has seen policing-related incidents that are “disgusting” and “horrible,” an apparent reference to the deaths of unarmed black Americans at the hands of police officers that have received significant attention over the last year.

But he said that “99.9 percent” of what police do is good. “The problem is the good work doesn’t get shown on television,” he said.

No Trump campaign stop is complete without a few shots at the media. At one point, as Trump was criticizing CNN’s coverage of a fundraiser he held on Friday — “We had this incredible event and they destroyed it,” he said — a supporter got his attention by shouting about “the criminal media.”

Trump used it as an opportunity to again emphasize the importance of his supporters. He attributed his continued lead in Republican primary polls to the intelligence of his supporters.

“The reason is people in this country are smart. They don’t believe a lot of what they see in the media.”

Trump professed his admiration for several country music stars, including Trace Adkins, who have appeared in his reality show “The Apprentice.” And he told the story of buying a property on 5th Avenue in Manhattan from Nashville-based retailer Genesco."

plastic columns and a really bad sand sculpture Vs. Trump Tower

Obama and his "sons" Vs. Trump and his family.

Quite the contrast.

Never forget:

Haven’t seen him say anything I’ve disagreed with on the campaign trail yet.

I'm thinking America is starting to wake up to the fact that TRUMP'S number one motive is to "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN."

You’ve described the existing system very well. Not only unfair, its become abusive when the state is targeting people with certain political beliefs(ie. us).
The big improvement is simplicity. As I understand it:
0-30k 1% tax rate
30-100k 5% tax rate
100k-1million 10%
1million+ 15%

No deductions. To a large degree, this de-fangs the IRS.
It also makes the bottom 40%, who pay negative taxes, taxpayers, which is a basic level of a stakeholder.

This link below gives roughly the current status. You’ll see all types of breakdowns depending on the news outlet and who they are catering to. Not shown is the top 1% are paying 25% at present.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/top-20-of-earners-pay-84-of-income-tax-1428674384

Trump’s comments last week on the hedge fund scammers tells me he knows exactly what’s what. They pay capital gains rate on their yearly income.

Regardless, he’ll have a battle with this, like immigration. So many embedded interests, which is another reason an intelligent, informed outsider is a positive.

What are your thoughts?

Meh, there’s no need for that.

I used to HATE Donald Trump. Called him a clown in the clown car, posted clown face pics, comb over pics, all that jazz.

So, yep, I was a fool, because now I’m very likely going to be voting for him, and happily so.

Funny how things work out sometimes.

Actually I’m pretty surprised by those numbers- I’d bought into the apparent myth that Trump is despised by hispanic/latino voters. If you read Peggy Noonan’s column this week, she discovered the same thing- Trump is resonating with them across the country.

I am much more interested it either a Forbes style “Flat Tax”, or a Huckabee style “Fair (Consumption) Tax”.
My preference is the latter. Like Huck said in the debate, it’s time pimps, hookers and drug dealers started paying their share also.
While I don’t support Huck for Prez, I think his tax plan makes the most sense.
It also eliminates the IRS. Something sorely needed in this country.
Eliminating the payroll withholding is something I want also. It’s the greatest scam ever pulled on American citizens.

Trump has been so bold about other things, why not this.
His Tax plan just seems very compromising to me, and I don’t get that from him.
If his progressive tax rates accompany a complete abolition of the Death Tax, and the Capital Gains Tax then I might soften some on it. The Hedge Fund guys don’t deserve to be double taxed no matter how they earn their living.
The same goes for any investor. If you put your already taxed income to work creating new jobs, and wealth in the marketplace why should your reward for that be penalized by a second taxation of the same money.
It mostly just worries me that anyone wants to see the IRS continue to exist after the fiasco we have just seen.

I did read that Peggy Noonan article about her deli friend. I have best friends that are hispanic and are 100% for Trump.

They don’t want anyone to pander to them, they just want someone who can turn this country - that they love - around, from the mess we’re in. They don’t trust Hellary any more than they trust 0bola.

“Those numbers add up to way more than 100%. What’s the question?”

Yep, agreed. I suspect the questions were different, the sample was different, except being ‘hispanic’, and probably taken at different times, different locations, different age groups, etc... so, we can’t identify specifics for *hispanics*, as one voter group.

Anyway, the links not only compare different Republican candidates, but overall more significantly, in the first poll, indicate Hillary gained Hispanic vote by 50% followed by Sanders’ 38% compared to Trump’s 34%. Maybe *an indication* but seems convoluted to me.

Although not Hispanic, remember Trump has a daughter (Ivanka Trump) who is half Czech (her ‘immigrant’ mother, Trump married).

An advantage Trump clearly holds is that he can’t be placed in either the Republican or Dem pigeonhole.

Well, Donald came out and announced his run, and he talked about illegal immigration and his desire to build a wall.

He even said something like I make the best walls, nobody makes a better wall than me. And of course I would make fun of something like that because that’s just the way that I am.

But then that woman was murdered in SF, and that pretty much changed everything.

It was really at that point that I realized we are at war and under siege. To know that a beautiful girl like that was murdered and died in the arms of her dad just crushed me.

Had that been my daughter, I expect I might have killed that man right then and there, but he did the right thing by holding her.

After that happened, I don’t really want to hear about anything other than reversing this garbage, and I don’t want to hear about it in pussified focus grouped terms, and I don’t want to hear illegal alien have stories too, I do not give a damn about illegal alien stories. They can go to Hell.

So I guess I began to appreciate the frank terms Trump uses on this matter and other matters. I am tired of the direction of this country, and what I think is needed is a man that loves America to reverse this fall.

Donald Trump is a man’s man. I gotta respect that dude, comb over and all. He’s got brass balls, and he may well not be a “true conservative”, there is no way for me to know 100% for sure, but I don’t need to know.

He says he wants to make America great again, and I believe him, and I also want to make America great again, so let’s do this.
