Illinois Not Paying Out Big Lottery Jackpots Amid Budget Standoff

CHICAGO (CBS) — The Illinois Lottery says big winners since July 1st aren’t getting any money yet because there’s no state budget, meaning the state has no legal authority to pay out lottery winnings.
The good news is: You won the lottery.
“It was a happy day. My husband was really excited. I thought he was going to have a heart attack,” said 73-year-old Helen Whitfield of Bourbonnais.
The bad news is: It may be awhile before you’re paid.

Illinois can't even run a sure thing that is designed to make money. This is the state that has given us Obama. Illinois would improve if the rest of the state would secede from Chicago. I'm sure the rest of the state wishes this also.

Which “game” has the steepest odds: winning the Illinois state lottery - or - actually collecting from same?
Seems perfectly legasl to me (at least by the standards of Illinois government) - they simply raised the tax rate on winnings to 100%.

Isn’t Illinois known as the Land of Lincoln? Hate to think that Abe is associated with that craphole of a state. Maybe we can do some historical revision the way lefties constantly do and say Abe never set foot in Illinois and spent all his pre DC days in his birth state of Kentucky.

But yes, cash in hand is almost always the way to go.
