Archaeologists discover palace with archaic inscriptions built during the Mycenaean period
'Archaeologists in Greece have discovered the ruins of an ancient palace with important archaic inscriptions dating back to the Mycenaean age, the culture ministry said Tuesday.
The palace, likely built around the 17th-16th centuries BC, had around 10 rooms and was discovered near Sparta in southern Greece.
At the site, archaeologists found objects of worship, clay figurines, a cup adorned with a bulls head, swords and fragments of murals.'

Bull’s head design makes one think of Crete. That area was probably dominated by Crete at the time.

The Vapheio tholos tomb near Sparta yielded two gold cups with exquisite depictions of bulls and cows. Whether produced locally or looted from Crete, I don’t know.

I hope the moozlum ISIS cretins don’t go there with a bulldozer or a bomb.

You would think that all the cool old stuff had been found by now.
A new discovery of an old sunken Spanish ship with gold and jewels etc always strikes me as amazing that it hadn't been found long before.

It is amazing that the house seen in the photo is that old. It is in pretty decent shape, may need to update the plumbing, add some paint, should sell in no time.
There is a strange orb nearby. Does it come with the house?..... : )

Does anyone know whether the use of a bulls head design started on Crete or the mainland? I would suspect the mainland. We have seen the magnificent art of the cave paintings from 20 and 30 thousand years ago. I’m sure the giant Aurochs which are now extinct figured in the awe in which such beasts were held. Found this Wiki article which has pictures, skeletons, and detailed genetic history of aurochs and modern cattle, and species restoration breeding projects.

The use of a bull can be seen in prehistoric art (as you mentioned, the cave paintings), but there's no reason that it couldn't have arisen independently each time bulls were introduced. If the image came from the mainland, it seems likely that it came from Anatolia, along with the people who brought it.

Perhaps Anatolia, but if you look at my Wiki post, you will see they are using Celt-Iberian bull stock in some of their rebreeding efforts.
