Lindsey Graham excoriated Republican presidential rival Donald Trump on Tuesday morning for his immigration plan, calling it both “stupid” and “illegal.”
In an interview with “Fox & Friends,” Graham addressed Trump’s immigration proposal, which would call for the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants, revoke birthright citizenship from the children of immigrants who came to the United States illegally and call for the construction of a wall along the United States’ 1,900-mile long border with Mexico.
“Well, Donald Trump’s plan on immigration is stupid,” the South Carolina senator said. “It’s illegal.”
If you try to deport American-born children of immigrants who came to the country illegally, “you’ll get creamed in court,” he added.
Most Hispanics, Graham remarked, find Trump offensive.
“I find him offensive,” he said. “His solution is just constitutionally flawed. It’s not practical.”
Graham also took aim at Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus who in an interview over the weekend said that Trump is a “net positive” for the party.
“I think that’s dumb, too,” he said.

And building a 1900 mile wall across the southern border? Is he out of his mind? How much would that cost? How long would it take? How would it work - illegals would climb over it, or burrow under it, or just simply go round it or over it. How are you going to police such a wall? How much manpower would it take? Fixed walls dont stop invasions. Hadrians wall didnt. The great wall of China didnt. The Maginot line didnt. It sounds tough and appealing to conservatives, but its utterly impractical. He must know that. If he doesnt, theres no way he should be president.
It’s hard to fight something with nothing. I don’t think Trumps plan in workable in most respects, but what does Graham propose in its place?

I have no use for illegal immigration. I fully understand the dangers it poses. My concern is simply that this kind of rhetoric does not help the situation, it alienates the conservative movement from its natural allies, and it certainly is not the way to overcome the problem. Are you seriously suggesting that Federal officers should be examining everyone's documentation, and deporting those that dont meet citizenship criteria, loading them into wagons for deportation? When 95% of the deportees will be of one particular race? I know thats conincidental but do you understand how that is going to look? Good grief.

That is a more pertinent answer to my comments. You are quite correct. Trump’s plan may be unworkable, but Graham offers no alternatives. Perhaps there aren’t any alternatives...
Ridiculous comment. If we have the same problem, then isnt it likely that we are going to have to explore the same possible solutions? Plugging the channel tunnel isnt going to solve ours no more than fortifying the southern border is going to solve yours.
