Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump fired back at Fox News on Tuesday after the network's head and several of its star personalities criticized him in an ongoing feud over anchor Megyn Kelly.
The celebrity real estate tycoon said he "totally" disagreed with a statement from Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes that defended Kelly's "tough but fair" questioning of Trump at the GOP debate Aug. 6.
"I do not think Megyn Kelly is a quality journalist. I think her questioning of me, despite all of the polls saying I won the debate, was very unfair," Trump said in his statement, reiterating past criticisms of the host.
"Hopefully in the future I will be proven wrong and she will be able to elevate her standards to a level of professionalism that a network such as FOX deserves," Trump added in the statement.
A slew of Fox News hosts and personalities slammed Trump after he reignited a feud with the network and its star anchor Monday night, when Kelly returned to the airwaves following a 10-day vacation.
Trump shared several tweets critical of the female host, including one referring to her as a "bimbo."
That set off a series of social media responses from several of her colleagues, including Bret Baier, who told Trump to move on, and Sean Hannity, who told the businessman to "leave @megynkelly alone."
Ailes also issued a lengthy statement Tuesday defending Kelly from Trump's criticism:
Donald Trump's surprise and unprovoked attack on Megyn Kelly during her show last night is as unacceptable as it is disturbing. Megyn Kelly represents the very best of American journalism and all of us at FOX News Channel reject the crude and irresponsible attempts to suggest otherwise.
"I could not be more proud of Megyn for her professionalism and class in the face of all of Mr. Trumps verbal assaults. Her questioning of Mr. Trump at the debate was tough but fair, and I fully support her as she continues to ask the probing and challenging questions that all presidential candidates may find difficult to answer.
"Donald Trump rarely apologizes, although in this case, he should. We have never been deterred by politicians or anyone else attacking us for doing our job, much less allowed ourselves to be bullied by anyone and were certainly not going to start now. All of our journalists will continue to report in the fair and balanced way that has made FOX News Channel the number one news network in the industry.
Despite doubling down again on his criticism of Kelly, Trump also suggested that he may be ready to move on from the public dispute, saying "more importantly" he was pleased to see several new polls showing him in the lead.
"I will be in Iowa tonight with my speech being broadcast live on CNN and other networks," Trump concluded. "My sole focus in running for the Presidency is to Make America Great Again!"
I can’t wait to see Megyn’s ratings now that she’s back. Meanwhile, Trump needs to move on. There is nothing more to be gained from harping on her.
Trump is correct on his analysis of Megyn:
Of the hundreds of questions that could have been asked, Kelly chose “an interesting closing question” for the candidates, suggested by a Facebook user, who said, ‘I want to know if any of them have received a word from God on what they should do and take care of first.’
“Senator Cruz, start from you. Any word from God?” Kelly asked.
I see what you did there.
Awww, poor widdle Donny.
No he doesn't Troll, he gets the toughest questions of any candidate I've ever seen.
He just doesn't like being accused of RAPING HIS WIFE on national television by some self-serving bimbo.
Megyn Kelly is a disgusting excuse for a journalist.
I recently watched One America News. Hands down better than Fox News. Seriously, if you watch one hour of it you will never watch Fox News, again.
Saw her last night for the first time since her vacation and she looked haggard, skinny and drawn. Not the way most people come back from their vaykay’s
I don’t know why so many conservatives are so enthralled with Trump. Yes, his political incorrectness is a refreshing breath of fresh air. I agree with that.
But what has Trump done for the Conservative Movement over the years? Answer: Exactly nothing.
It is all about Trump. Get a clue!
If Megyn Kelly can troll Trump this hard, imagine what would happen if he was ever faced with Putin or ISIS. He would be cowering in a corner wetting himself. The U.S.”s enemies must be hoping Trump gets elected.
It obviously makes sense if you consider the giant project in California coast and the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas they stiffed him on the gaming license for. You build that thing in LV and get stiffed on a gaming license you’re giving to every pol you ever meet afterwards.
Oh.
So he HAD to give money to Reid and Pelosi?
I’m sure that is the case.
Agree...and he is on every show out there. And they are hammering him with tough questions...questions about POLICY! Those questions were mean spirited and meant to take him off his game. She wanted to stop his momentum and unfortunately for her...it made him stronger and exposed FOX NEWS.
Yes she ran with it two nights in a row. The story was refuted on day one. Kelly was still pushing the story on day two.
The issue could not be more straightforward, the question is:
a.) Stand with Megyn Crowley’s yellow journalism and sniper questions contrived for an agenda? (in her case, the agenda was to take down Trump)
b.) Stand with Donald Trump who won’t back down from the presstitutes and broadcast whores who dress like sluts and tramps in the pursuit of ratings?
If lil Mad Megyn is going to go on the air, she should be able to handle critical comments no matter WHO it comes from. If she can’t handle it, then she needs to GTF-off the air.
“I dont know why so many conservatives are so enthralled with Trump.”
For the last two months it has been plastered all over the board.
You have your opinion, I respect that. I just don’t share it.
Why do you give far more money to the Dems than the Republicans including the Clintons?
I think his answer to that question only helps him in the eyes of supporters. He plainly says that you have to 'pay to play', and he 'plays' in places like NY where the politicians are mainly Democrats.
Then he turns it around further and goes on to say he can't be bought like them.
