Trump widens lead over U.S. Republican presidential field: Reuters poll (Now 32% pulling away)

Republican Donald Trump is pulling away from the pack in the race for the party's U.S. presidential nomination, widening his lead over his closest rivals in the past week, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed on Friday.

Republican voters show no signs they are growing weary of the brash real estate mogul, who has dominated political headlines and the 17-strong Republican presidential field with his tough talk about immigration and insults directed at his political rivals. The candidates are vying to be nominated to represent their party in the November 2016 general election.

Nearly 32 percent of Republicans surveyed online said they backed Trump, up from 24 percent a week earlier, the opinion poll found. Trump had nearly double the support of his closest competitor, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who got 16 percent. Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson was third at 8 percent.

Even when Trump was pitted directly in the poll against just his top two competitors, 44 percent backed him. Bush won about 29 percent of respondents, and Carson 25 percent.

"He's not taking any guff from anybody," Dewey Stedman, 70, a Republican from East Wenatchee, Washington, said of the publicity-loving billionaire. "If you don't have something in your brains, you're not going to have billions of dollars."

Was Herman Cain in the lead at this point in 2011 or was it Newt?

I’m worried by Bush’s 16%.

He was getting more around 10-12% in most of the polls.

My view is that Jeb has a lot of potential growth as other establishment candidates fade. The GOPe did this packed “clown bus” stunt, where lots of estab. guys with no chance threw their hats in the ring. I thought that this was some kind of strategy to split the vote and clear the road for Bush. That would probably work if Bush was getting 30-40% of the vote.

If statements from some of these GOPe folks are accurate, stopping Rand Paul seems to have been an overriding concern. But Paul did himself in and wasn’t a factor. Trump blindsided them. They have to adjust their strategy.

If the lower ranked candidates drop out, where do their votes go? That is the million dollar question. People are celebrating that the GOPe favorites are doing so poorly. But remember the fact that the scrubs are the more liberal candidates may point to their next destination when a clown like Graham or Kasich or Perry or Christie pops out of the bus.

That’s why I’m not counting Bush out.

Trump may well self destruct. He is far from an ideal candidate. He has a very enthusiastic following, but a TON of baggage. I think Trump stands a good shot at sitting in the White House, but every trick will be used to stop him. Hillary is still beating all in all the polls. This is a wide open field.

16 percent for Jebbie, a horrible choice, is huge.

And that's only because the gop has split the support for the others.

"It is an appeal to people that are just aggravated about what's going on," Republican strategist Rich Galen said, adding that Trump is a "novelty act" that voters will tire of.

Uh.....maybe the Establishment Republicans need to get a new strategist; this Galen dude is nuts.

I am no dope - and Trump has lots of “wrinkles” - but I am enjoying this show way too much to tire of it ... I’ve got many axes to grind away on the face of GOPe before I even think about another candidate.

Did you know that Boehner’s health lawyer advisor resigned today, and that she’s the sister of the woman featured on the videos negotiating to buy baby parts from planned parenthood?

If someone can provide me with a source for that, I will get it on Twitter and with the help of many other Conservatives on there, we'll do our best to make that info go viral on the 'net.

Boehner Aide, Sister of CEO Who Discussed Shipping ‘Intact’ Aborted Baby Parts, Resigns to Join Lobbying Firm

By Michael W. Chapman | August 22, 2015 | 2:48 PM EDT

Charlotte Ivancic, outgoing health policy adviser to House

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), and sister of Cate Dyer,

the founder and CEO of StemExpress in Placerville, Calif.

(CNSNews.com) – Charlotte Ivancic — the older sister of Cate Dyer who runs the biotech company StemExpress, and who discussed and laughed about shipping “intact” aborted baby parts in an undercover video released on Friday – is leaving her position as the health policy adviser to House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to go to work for the lobbying firm Tarplin, Downs & Young.

The resignation of Ivancic—who worked for Boehner and as legal counsel to the House Budget Committee–was announced on August 5, as reported in The Hill.

In late July, StemExpress and its founder and CEO, Cate Dyer, were mentioned in undercover videos of Planned Parenthood’s harvesting of aborted baby parts by the Center for Medical Progress, a pro-life organization.

StemExpress obtained a temporary restraining order on July 28 against the release of any further investigative videos, but that order was lifted on Aug. 21 by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Joanne O’Donnell.

After the restraining order was lifted, the Center for Medical Progress released a new video (on Aug. 21) that includes footage of a luncheon meeting with StemExpress’ Cate Dyer and the investigators who discuss how the procurement, supply, and shipping of aborted baby parts and their tissue operates.

In the video, Dyer says, “Oh, yeah, I mean if you had intact cases, which we’ve done a lot, we sometimes ship those back to our lab in its entirety.” Then, later in the conversation she says, “Yeah! [laughter] Tell the lab it’s coming! … They’ll open the box, go, ‘Oh God!’ [laughter].”

A full transcript of the conversation between Dyer and the other people at the meeting is posted by the Center for Medical Progress here.

According to Cate Dyer’s bio at Sacramento State University, “She was born Catherine Anne Spears (she changed her name to Dyer when she married) in Long Beach. Her father, Richard Spears, opened Mercedes-Benz dealerships around the country for 30 years and moved his family frequently; Dyer had attended 17 schools by age 16. Her mother, Martha Wildforster-James, was an executive with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

“And her older sister, Charlotte Ivancic, works as the legal counsel [sic] for House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio. ‘I had two busy parents growing up,’ says Dyer. ‘They were both movers and shakers, and my sister and I are wired just like them.’”

Charlotte Ivancic was the health policy adviser to House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and a legal counsel to the House Budget Committee, which is headed by Chairman Tom Price (R-Ga.).

On her Linkedin page, Ivancic is still listed as “Counsel at U.S. House of Representatives House Budget Committee.”

In a statement cited by The Hill, Boehner said of Ivancic’s pending departure, “Charlotte has spearheaded some of our most significant accomplishments on behalf of the American people. She is one of the best I’ve seen at bringing people together to find common ground, and she leaves Boehnerland with the deepest respect — and best wishes — of her peers as well as lawmakers from both parties.”

Tarplin, Downs & Young was established in 2006. It specializes “in strategic consulting and policy development with a particular focus on health care,” according to its web site.

Among the clients of Tarplin, Downs & Young are Merck, Pfizer Inc., PhRMA, Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc., and the AARP.
