Republican Donald Trump is pulling away from the pack in the race for the party's U.S. presidential nomination, widening his lead over his closest rivals in the past week, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed on Friday.
Republican voters show no signs they are growing weary of the brash real estate mogul, who has dominated political headlines and the 17-strong Republican presidential field with his tough talk about immigration and insults directed at his political rivals. The candidates are vying to be nominated to represent their party in the November 2016 general election.
Nearly 32 percent of Republicans surveyed online said they backed Trump, up from 24 percent a week earlier, the opinion poll found. Trump had nearly double the support of his closest competitor, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, who got 16 percent. Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson was third at 8 percent.
Even when Trump was pitted directly in the poll against just his top two competitors, 44 percent backed him. Bush won about 29 percent of respondents, and Carson 25 percent.
"He's not taking any guff from anybody," Dewey Stedman, 70, a Republican from East Wenatchee, Washington, said of the publicity-loving billionaire. "If you don't have something in your brains, you're not going to have billions of dollars."

WHO are they polling? Yes, I can see some idiots supporting Trump - he is entertaining (in a nerve-grinding way). But he also more identifies as a Democrat... he is to the Left of the last two RINO/GOP candidates we had.
This is the same guy who loves Hillary.. and directly supporter her last time around...
This is the same Trump who has favored government-run health care. The same Trump who has supported abortion. The same trump who has taken so many other very LEFTist positions over the years...
But for Jeb Bush to be supposedly in “2nd”... even if polling at ½ of Trump’s numbers... seriously? Of all the “Republican” voters I know, I have only encountered one who even tolerates Jeb -

I would agree with you that the nation is in worse shape than feared. As for Trump being a liberal Dem, or more supportive of Hillary, I don’t know if that is as much of a truth as you paint it, and if so, then I’d point out that where is conservatism during the last 8 years especially after the Republicans won the house and the senate. No, if Trump isn’t the nominee, then rest assured that neither will Carson or Cruz. It will be Jeb and he’s just as liberal as most of the establishment on Capital Hill.
I’m voting for Trump because he isn’t establishment, he speaks his mind, he isn’t beholding to special interests or a lobby, I trust that he’ll do what he says he’ll do or die trying. Trump is a self made man with both large success and large failures in life and has seemed to learn from both.
Lastly, if our nation is two wheels from going over the cliff and I agree it is, then I’d rather take a chance on Trump who just might save it, rather than the GOPe who I KNOW from past experience will do NOTHING.
It’s over. Trump will be at almost 50% by October.
To further elaborate, if I may, I believe Trump truly loves the USA and legit wants to go down in history as the greatest President since Washington!

Trump is running not on the power of his own politics (which, put diplomatically, are still quite mixed) or even his self, but on the power of some very audacious ideas. Notice that he is very specific and limited in what he is pressing hard. Trump is not pretending to aspire to being the all-president for every wish.

A lady called Rush’s show today, talked with Mark Steyn, and her take was that since Trump was drawing huge crowds in the same fashion that Obama did, then that means Trump was another Obama. I kid you not. I suppose, for her, the key would be to go down the list and pick Linda Graham, who can’t draw three people.
