Former president Jimmy Carter said that the cancer doctors discovered earlier this year, on his liver, has spread to his brain and that he will receive his first radiation treatment for the disease Thursday afternoon.
"I'm perfectly at ease with whatever comes," Carter said at a news conference.
Carter, 90, said Thursday that doctors found "four spots of melanoma on my brain -- small spots" after first discovering cancer during an Aug. 3 operation to remove a tumor from his liver.
During that surgery, Carter said, doctors suspected that the cancer had originated in other parts of his body. They later discovered the melanoma spots, about "two millimeters" in size, on his brain.
Doctors removed about one-tenth of his liver during the surgery, which he said healed quickly and left him with "minimal pain."
He will undergo four courses of radiation to treat the cancer in his brain.
Carter said doctors will continue to scan his body for cancer, in an effort to determine where the melanoma originated.

I have watched radiation for brain cancer cause several friends to lose all cognitive ability and die with a few months. My younger brother is going trough this now.
Main cause of Melanoma is exposure to sun. If you are born with light skin, you have no protection given by melanin pigment. You were not meant to look “Tan”. Wear a large brim hat every time you are out in the sun.
Yes, hubris. a condition that effects almost all leaders, liberals in particular.

Depending on one's age, I think the treatments are worth it. However, if I were Carter's age, I'd just think I'd had my 9 innnings (actually he got extra innings) and say "game over".

Agreed. My ancestors came from countries where the sun shone very infrequently. My skin has two degrees of tan: translucent and lobster. No real degrees in between. So I wear hats and use sunscreen. But in the winter when the swarthy people are freezing, I’m perfectly comfortable in a sweater and light gloves.

It’s interesting that conservatives retire and get private lives, while liberals keep on doing as much harm as they possibly can until their last breath.
