Tonight on MSNBC, mocking the notion that Hillary Clinton's e-mail server woes may eventually push her out of the presidential campaign, Hardball host Chris Matthews sneered that when that happens, he'd wrap his Hardball program.

MATTHEWS: We're waiting right now-- No, no, there's a lot of if there. When Hillary Clinton quits this election, we're going to shut down this show, OK?

Let’s remember that Matthews was rabidly anti-Clinton in those days. When it came to anti-clinton vitriol back then, almost nobody did it better.

Still, at virtually the same time, Rush was frequently reminding callers who liked Chris that Chris was a deeply committed left-wing Democrat.

Maybe it’s just another historical anomaly where we may never have a good answer.
