Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Wednesday that he "absolutely" supports ending birthright citizenship, suggesting that has been his position for years. "Absolutely. We should end granting automatic birthright citizenship to the children of those who are here illegally," Cruz, who is running for president, said during an interview with the Michael Medved Show. "That has been my position from the very first day of my running for the Senate."
Cruz's comments come after Donald Trump's immigration proposal has sparked a debate among Republican presidential candidates and forced the issue into the media spotlight.
A proposal, released by Trump on Sunday, called for building a wall along the southern border, and changing the 14th Amendment to end so-called "birthright citizenship."
Cruz, who has repeatedly praised Trump throughout his presidential campaign, said Wednesday that the businessman, and 2016 frontrunner, is "forcing the mainstream media to talk about issues they don't want to talk about."
But the Texas Republican also sought to galvanize off of Trump's plan, saying that he has offered "virtually every proponent" in legislation and that he "led the fight against amnesty" in the Senate.
"Jeff and I have fought for many of these legislative proposals side by side," Cruz added, referring to Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), who Trump consulted on his immigration proposal.
Geez, I wish Donald would stop "me-to-ing" Cruz.
These classes of people, even if born here, are NOT American citizens under the Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1952:
a child born on American soil to a:
(1) foreign ambassador,
(2) head of state,
(3) foreign military prisoner
So what prevents Congress from simply adding another class of people to the list?

I don’t think this has to be “ended,” as it is an improper interpretation of the Constitution to begin with.
We just need to recognize the constitutional requirements for citizenship, not “end” anything.
Heh. If Cruz says it he gets no traction. I suspect Cruz is cheering for Donald’s assault on the establishment, the CoC, and the media. Mark my words... If Trump implodes his support goes to Cruz. If not Trump takes Cruz for Veep, and he has to wait 8 years for his turn.
I would like to see Jeff Sessions Senate Majority Leader.
I am down to two. I like Cruz and one other whose name I won’t mention right now.

I’m not going to bash Trump. I like the guy but I won’t vote for him because I do not share his views on key issues to me.
