Don’t give up hope.

I'm not giving up hope. I'm looking realistically at what it would take to win the general. If Cruz is the GOP nominee, GOP is much more likely to lose. Even today, with the mounting evidence of Hillary breaking the law big time, and with her entire track record, the left is airily dismissing her blatant criminality and venality. We simply can't send an intellectual/lawyer/debater with a perpetually worried facial expression and little positive name recognition into this contest and hope to win it decisively, not just for the presidency, but for the Senate and House races that will go along with his campaign. The only reason Dubya won was name recognition and the Bush machine already built for decades behind him. Cruz does not have that.

Whoever our nominee is will get immediate world wide name recognition over night. All you have to do is get Ted Cruz on stage for a one on one debate with the Democrat nominee and that’s all she wrote!

Wishful thinking. It takes more than name recognition. The GOP-e and RNC are never, repeat, never going to give full support to Cruz, and would actively work against him as they did with McCain due to their fear and hatred of Sarah Palin.

Politics is a long game, a deep game and a complex game. Cruz is not seasoned enough to go against the worldwide leftist conspiracy behind the Democrat facade. That's why comparisons to Obama having been elected with a thin resumé are false. Obama was put in place by a wealthy machine of the shadow government of One-World financiers, Islamists and atheists to be their Trojan Horse and channel for the destruction of the USA. The peoples of traditional Western civilization who want traditional concepts of freedom have been marginalized, disorganized, demonized and increasingly criminalized since the socialists took over England in the early 20th century.

Similar thoughts but would to see Cruz firsr serve as AG to get it straightened out and later be appointed to SCOTUS where his influence on the country and upholding the constitution would be a loooooong lifetime influence. All branches of government need to be made Great again

AW, thank you for posting this comment.

My ideal ticket would be Trump/Cruz for all of the reasons you had delineated.

Our population has changed—the demographics especially. The WW2 generation is almost no longer with us. They were a big part of Reagan’s victory in 1980.

Who has filled in behind them is Generation X, Y and the Millenials.

How they view Trump and Cruz is going to be a challenge for us to assess, as the popular culture has diminished the brand of the GOP in almost every movie and TV series you can name.

As you say, a new paradigm is going to have be introduce, and for the GOP-E, they want the status quo.

You will be roundly criticized for your treatise no doubt, but sometimes you have to step back and take a realistic look at things.

Right now in mid August 2016, Trump/Cruz is our best bet, not just for conservatives, but more importantly, for all of America.

Best of all, we can save our nation from Jeb, Hillary and any Dems, Kasich and the rest of the RINO squishes.

Trump/Cruz will put the best and brightest of our conservatives to work in their administration as well.

The GOP-E wants to divide us and run Jeb up the middle.

It’s time we run something up their middle.

Flame retardant suits—on.

Major point and reason for concern. Many of them are well into their 90's.

Yeah, but what’s wrong with some cuteness by half? I thought it was well-written and enjoyed reading it.

I enjoy reading many posts by different FReepers, whether I precisely agree with every single point or not.

I can think of one or two FReepers I don’t enjoy reading at all but this isn’t one of them.

Thanks for your response. I sit better informed now.

Totally agree.

Well put! LOL! (Not right out of the gate, at least.)

McCain was just a lousy pilot. Crashed several expensive fight planes before that fatal bombing run over Vietnam. Was too inept of a pilot to avoid SAM’s fired at his aircraft. And he has done nothing except poke in the eyes of conservatives. Other than he is a war hero, for breaking both his arms due to faulty ejecting procedure.

Hahahahah! Good one!

I see today that they're trotting out Al Gore. Oh, please. Have to think back to Rubio's hilarious comment at the debate, along the lines of, "I'm glad there are so many capable Republicans running. The Democrats can't even find ONE."

I'm more worried about Gore than Biden. The demographics are far more favorable today for him than in 2000, and he managed a majority at that point. There are far more eco-Nazis at this time. He has a pocketful of money and the econuts like James Cameron and Google and countless others like Gates and Soros and all of Hollywood would jump in to help him.

Make no mistake, they are all trouble: Gore, Biden, even O'Malley. In reality, Clinton and Sanders are probably the two weakest!

Never forget, the (D)ummycrats walk in with a near guaranteed 250-260 electoral votes against a typical (R)epublicrat. They only need 270. The question for them is not what states they will win, but which ones could they lose to the right (R).

It also means the (R) candidates need to be measured by what purple states they could win.

The battlefield is MI, PA, WI, IN, IA, OH, FL, NC. Perhaps CO and VA. which of our guys can take any or all of them?

I’m a little less charitable than you .......and I do enjoy the various opinions....until they accuse me of being establishment, which I don’t take kindly to and which is foolishness anyway.

Did you notice on Friday night all of the Prime Time Fox shows (well I only caught Greta and O’Reilly but Hannity always has him on) were all Trump. Greta a little less but O’Reilly was an all Trump special show. Like him or hate him, it seems Fox has chose Trump over Kelly and are trying to say I'm sorry in a big way.
