Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said that he is against a flat tax and people as they make more and more money can pay a higher percentage in an interview broadcast on Wednesdays Hannity on the Fox News Channel.

Those are Democrat talking points. He also mentioned the middle class, which is another DEM talking point. I think he is making things up as he goes along.
In case you haven't noticed must of his supports are Fanboy/girl types they are a mixture of Democrats and Republicans that will rationalize anything he says. He has gotten the immigration debate out but most of everything else he says is pretty standard for a Democrat.
You buy silver flatware instead of stainless steel flatware and you pay the higher tax. You buy a yacht instead of a cabin cruiser and the same thing applies.
You buy the "expensive stuff" so it's easy to see why you don't want a flat tax 'cause you'll finally have pay the taxes you truly owe instead of having your lawyers find loopholes for you so you can evade taxation.
No, most GOP candidates and voters are for a graduated income tax. That’s also what he advocated in his book.
It will be interesting to see the “spin” on this from the Trump supporters here on FR.
This is Trump’s strategy now.....he has big GOP support, but still very weak among the general public, so he is pivoting to build his poll numbers against Clinton, Sanders or other potential rivals.
Ending Tax Socialism September 13, 1996
In 1848 Marx and Engels proposed that progressive taxation be used to wrest, by degrees, all capital from the bourgeois, to centralize all instruments of production in the hands of the state. Although communism has failed, the idea of progressive taxation, as a means of achieving social justice, remains ingrained in the modern liberal psyche.
Your true colors are showing.
He is making stuff up as he goes right now, and he is at least 40% Democrat.
He’s too afraid to look selfish and wants too much to be liked. So he talks about having a heart re: immigration, not fully believing in supply side economics, etc.
Most GOP pols talk about the middle class too, however.
There is a reason why it is also called a progressive tax.
I explain the poor reasoning behind it to my kids using the example:
So bread and milk is taxed at 9.5%. Cigarettes and booze are taxed at 25%. Why do you think that is?
“The other booze and stuff you don’t need. It’s not good for you. Etc.”
“Correct. They call them sin taxes, one reason is to get you to stop doing them.”
Now - does it sound like a good idea to tax you more if you are a hard worker, maybe the president of a company that hires lots of people? Why would the government want to give you incentives to stop doing that!?
Those making up to $30,000 will pay 1 percent.
Income from $30,000 to $100,000 is assessed a flat 5 percent tax.
$100,000 to $1 million income will be taxed at 10 percent.
$1 million or above will be taxed 15 percent.
No exceptions, no loopholes. Not much for the IRS to really do.
I'd prefer the Fair Tax, but Trump's plan does not seem overly Democratic to me.
He is a Democrat
So it takes 10 years of losing money by investing in infrastructure so I can finally make a “profit?” I pay taxes on the profit but don’t get to write down the cost of making it?
This structure only works for employees. Even then a “progressive” (see that word?) tax is inherently unfair.
He’s flailing all over the place. Last week he was for a flat tax. Now he’s for a graduated tax? Whoever is advising him on this stuff is a moron.
I’d love to see this done for a couple years, you would not believe the amount of money taken in. Plus more money in our hands to spend on stuff we don’t need, which will make everyone happier...
Why tax me arbitrarily on the front end instead of the back end?
I have control of the money I earn through my labor when I'm taxed on the backside. See reply 7. I'll buy the stainless flatware for now and buy the silver when I can afford it.
There's no question that the tax code needs to be completely overhauled and simplified.
But there's absolutely nothing wrong with seeking to minimize your tax burden as long as you stay within the law as it exists.
If your situation is so complex that you need accountants and lawyers to figure it out, then you have to use accountants and lawyers.
But to use the argument that someone is "evading" taxation by exploiting "loopholes" and not paying what they "truly owe" is a standard liberal class warfare tactic.
Make that reply 4.
I dont think anyone is advising Trump. He believes himself above that sort of thing. He surrounds himself with sycophants.
My what a caveat you have there.
Do you believe that "gaming the system" is proper?
Uh, no, Donald. That is a non-starter.
