With barely a month to go in its contract talks, Ford Motor Co. has thrown a meaty bone to the United Autoworkers Union. And it may also take Ford out of the presidential debate, where it recently became a target of Republican front-runner Donald Trump.
Negotiations got off to a slightly testy start last month following news that the second-largest domestic automaker would likely move production of several key small car lines from Michigan to Mexico. Now, however, Ford says it plans to shift a heavy-duty version of its F-Series pickups from Mexico to a plant in Ohio, a move that will "secure" 1,000 union jobs.
"Our investment in Ohio Assembly Plant reinforces our commitment to building vehicles in America," said Joe Hinrichs, Ford's president of the Americas. "Working with our partners in the UAW, we found a way to make the costs competitive enough to bring production of a whole new generation of work trucks to Ohio."

Yes!
BTTT!
I’m tellin’ ya...Trump has done more to make POSITIVE changes happen, in our economic and political landscape, than ANYONE in DC has done, in decades!
Go Trump!
Ha ha!
GM....GUBMINT MOTORS. Can’t do much there until he’s inaugurated. The factories are already gone.
I’m sure Trump’s declarations regarding the proposed Mexico plant are causing the suits at Ford to have second thoughts. This return of the truck plant to Ohio is just the beginning. There WILL be more.
Last night in Michigan trump called the Pres. of Ford (Fields?) by name when he mentioned the $2.5 Billion plant in Mexico. One thing Fields does NOT want to do, following Alan Mulally’s glorious victorious saving of Ford from bankruptcy and taking gubmint bailouts....he does NOT want to be the one to get into a tarrif battle, and price their product out of the market, etc. He is paying attention.
There was some talk of putting it in TN. A RTW State. Also, Ford builds a lot of F-150s in MO. Next month Missouri Assembly meets in and effort to override Gov. Nixon’s veto of RTW. They may hold off until then.
Yes he does. That’s one of the reasons the establishment is terrified of him. They can only hope, if he becomes president, that he will be too busy fixing the mess this country is in to put them in jail.
Anybody who believes Ford did this because of Trump is an idiot. This decision would have been made long ago.
I believe Trump and the CEO of Ford are friends so its not a stretch to believe that Trump had some inside info and slipped it into a speech. If so it was brilliant timing.
Easy there. These “morons” are your electorate. Even Jeb understands this, that’s why he’s hiding in the shadows.
I don’t need advice from sleeper trolls thank you.
Jane besides having a very positive interview with Dr Ben today. Neal had both Forbes and Laffler on they will be advising Mr T. Luncheon is planned in NYC to get a team together. Woo hoo They when asked spoke highly of Dr Ben
Keep eye out for article or video to post
Brilliant move on Trump's part. Shows he can listen...and to the right people.
This just keeps getting better and better.
In the mid 80’s I oversaw a deal to sell 300 GM six cylinder engines to a dealership in Kuwait. Told them and told them that all of that type engine were now being manufactured in Mexico (this was ten years before NAFTA) and warned them that country of origin on the paperwork needed to show that. They seemed to comprehend what I was telling them but when the engines arrived with “Hecho en Mexico” cast into the blocks they threw a fit saying we had cheated them. Mexico has been a major location for the American auto industry for component manufacturing for a very long time.
Anybody who believes Ford did this because of Trump is an idiot.Nice try. The opposite is true, unless you're so dense you can't understand how bad the Trump exposure of Ford's plan made them look.
But maybe you're right. No one really cares about manufacturing leaving the country.< /sarcasm >
Your ignorance is showing through your snarky hatred.
“Trump will get credit, because of the timing.”
Yes, but also because Ford took another look at Mexico and decided DT was right - it’s best to stay in Tennessee.
It also is a vote of confidence that Mr. Trump just might be Chief Executive in 2017 after all. Mmmm...maybe Ford has some inside political information we all don’t have yet.
So he’s going to cancel NAFTA? That 35% figure is thrown out there in reference to China et al.
Thanks, Mr. Trump.
No one else could make Ford rethink their plans like this.
So when is the president going to make GM move plants back to the USAWhat makes you think he's any different from you and simply doesn't care.
Dr Ben interview was top caliber. They HAVE had a relationship.for some time. When he said we live in same areas (neighborhood) did you catch the twinkle in his eye. Subtle put down to 0 and his non friends ?
Ford has opened more jobs in Ohio. Doesn’t matter if a result of Mr T it will be perceived that it was
You are RIGHT ON in your statement!!!!! Perception IS EVERYTHING!!!!!
I keep saying that Trump has accepted the position as interim CEO of USA,Inc. It looks like he running everything now.
He is now in negotiations for permanent CEO of USA,Inc.
He will take this news about Ford and it will be worth another 10% bump in the polls.
