With barely a month to go in its contract talks, Ford Motor Co. has thrown a meaty bone to the United Autoworkers Union. And it may also take Ford out of the presidential debate, where it recently became a target of Republican front-runner Donald Trump.
Negotiations got off to a slightly testy start last month following news that the second-largest domestic automaker would likely move production of several key small car lines from Michigan to Mexico. Now, however, Ford says it plans to shift a heavy-duty version of its F-Series pickups from Mexico to a plant in Ohio, a move that will "secure" 1,000 union jobs.
"Our investment in Ohio Assembly Plant reinforces our commitment to building vehicles in America," said Joe Hinrichs, Ford's president of the Americas. "Working with our partners in the UAW, we found a way to make the costs competitive enough to bring production of a whole new generation of work trucks to Ohio."

Just my opinion now, but The Donald may be for real. He could be the Everyman’s Inside guy. He obviously knows where a lot of the skeleton’s are buried.
You of course have facts to back up your statement, right?
And like I said, idiots believe it.
Now he needs to man up and magically move a GM plant or 2 back from Mexico. LOL
BOOM. There goes another one.
Trump just saved my uncle’s job.
Not surprising that Trump’s aligned with Democrats and unions.
And what the Tea Party wants more than anything is to give wealthy businessmen who trade on insider information more power over our government?
Note the plant isn’t going to a RTW state.
Heard a stat today that GM makes more cars in Canada than in the US. Because they don’t have to pay for the health care over there.
He will make that point and there isn't anything any other candidate can say.
Sic ‘em, Donnie!
Why ELSE would Ford make such a move?
Sic ‘em, Don!
I’d like to see your supporting links on that.
Last time I looked, GM had two assembly plants in Canada (Oshawa and Ingersoll) and about eleven in the US.
And what other candidate or politician has spoken out against plant and job relocation to cheap labor nations?
Trump put some loud attention on Ford and job exports. Good timing for The Donald.
They were first going to build in Tennessee, then Mexico. After Trump started talking 35% tariffs, suddenly it’s Ohio. :):)
LOL. The TDS burns.
Of course Ford was thinking about it. But let’s face facts: they decided based on several factors, and not wanting to be a political punching bag was certainly one of them.
Ford has 3 plants in Canada. (One less than they have in Mexico) That is vs the 27 factories they have here.

GM has 6 factories in Canada and 3 in Mexico.

Interesting....for all the Trump haters and deniers: Notice, Ford isn’t saying it was decided long ago, or that it has nothing to do with Trump.
Why? Because they see which way the tide is going and they’re going to stay on Trump’good side as much as possible.
Just good business sense.
GM has 6 factories in Canada.
