Tribal officials with the Navajo Nation declared an emergency as a massive plume of contaminated wastewater from an abandoned Colorado mine flowed down the San Juan River on Monday toward Lake Powell in Utah, which supplies much of the water to the Southwest.
Some drinking water systems on the Navajo Nation, which spans parts of New Mexico, Arizona and Utah, have shut down their intake systems and stopped diverting water from the river.

New Mexico PING!
Uh oh. Dumping toxins on Native American land.
That’s almost as serious as naming a sports team after them.
Montezuma’s UHHHH. Nixon’s Revenge!!! NO Wait!
Bush’s Fault!!
Fine the EPA, and let BP choose the amount.
There is nothing to worry about. It’s totally harmless. The EPA said so.
Obama’s River of Tears.
Bet you a dollar they will blame Bush.
No wonder the EPA was in such a hurry to take action!
Holy Mackeral!! The river appears to be downstream from the Velveeta factory.
Sorry, I time-warped back to the 4th Grade there for an instant. :-)
Given tribal sovereignty, why can’t the tribe fine the EPA?

Every article should lead with caused by the EPA, but to the casual headline skimmer, EPA isn’t obvious. Later in the article it is indicated that the spill is caused by an EPA supervised crew, so the language is softening EPA’s role. I wonder if there is a media plan to water down the reports and then disappear the incident down the memory hole, vs a tirade against the private sector if a spill of this magnitude has been caused by a company?
so..... can the sovereign Navajo nation sue the sovereign United States of America
Experts from the U.S. Forest service set a backfire out in the Big Bend area of Texas several years ago for fire prevention. The ranchers knew the wind was too high, but the experts went ahead with their plans. The fire got away from them, burned thousands of acres, killed livestock and destroyed thousands of dollars worth of fences.
No one ever gets fired for totally screwing up a government job. Union workers are special that way.
that picture is at the end of Troon Circle in Durango, and is about 7 miles north of downtown Durango, and about 30 miles south of the gold king mine...
It is the EPA mine spill
The EPA did this intentionally. Bammy is looking for ways to create massive unrest which could include a water crisis. Notice the fires everywhere, too? He’s itchin’ to stay in office and create a scenario where he can do it.
