The Fox News moderators went after Trump harder than any of his opponents during last nights debate. He started the debate on the defensive over his refusal to rule out an independent bid. Megyn Kelly, one of three moderators, then memorably pushed him on his history of misogynistic comments: Youve called women you dont like fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals. Later, she wondered when he decided to become a Republican and asked about his flip-flops on abortion. The other moderators, Chris Wallace and Breit Baier, forced Trump to defend his past support for a single-payer health-care system, his contributions to Hillary Clinton and the bankruptcies of his companies. They also pressed him for evidence that the Mexican government is sending criminals over the border.
There is mixed evidence about how much of a toll these moments, which would be fatal for any normal candidate, will take on Trumps image. But it seems very possible that last night was a tipping point in the Republican nominating contest. Frank Luntzs post-debate focus group, which aired live on Fox, found many voters who supported Trump going into the two-hour event turning on him. Buzz on the cable network and across most conservative web sites broke decidedly negative, including from commentators who have been sympathetic.

Wow - really? That is hilarious!!!
I have never liked Megan Kelly....
I think FNC should buy her for what’s she’s worth, then sell her for what she thinks she’s worth then they wouldn’t have to have a ‘pony show’ like what I’m reading they had last night....
True at some level, he was just stating the obvious
...but then he also said Trump was one of 10 bas***** in the nation.
Lindsey is no friend of Trumps
Things have come to a pretty pass when MSNBC treats R candidates with more grace than Fox...er, FAUX.
That is NOT what he said. He said that was what Kelly was implying. Listen again.
“At first I thought so to but Kelly was playing devils advocate.
This is what Trump will see when he faces a NBC debate”
Big assumption implicit in your remarks...assuming he agrees to the debate. I think he would be smart to pick and choose the debates he attends, and is already doing so (he skipped the one in NH). He’s the major draw for audiences and is in a great position to negotiate terms. Last night’s circus provides him all the ammo he needs to say: I don’t have time for this.
It's clear the real purpose was to wrong-foot Trump with the audience from the get-go and take any energy out of the room for Trump. That strengthen the hand of the debate moderators who must have been concerned on the front end about their ability to control Trump.
The strategy worked pretty well - the crowd was booing Trump in the first minute. The real question: was the set-up of Trump Megan's idea or the Bush camp?
I agree 100% with Trump about Frank Luntz.
Even Linda gets it.
The moderators were a disgrace - five minutes of cutesy and unfunny kibitzing while governors, senators and captains of industry stood on the stage waiting for them to shut up. Then two hours of eye-rolling, lip curling snark from three self-congratulatory idiots. Why Kelly even snarked about God! I’ve never seen anything like it and I’ve seen a lot.
Lol! DWS barely appeals to the hardcore left; for normal people she is all but unwatchable. Megyn is not exactly hitting them out of the park this go round.
Trump needs to remind Luntz to get a better wig. Also, Luntz is supposed to be a nasty guy behind the scenes, brutalizing his panelists.
My neighbor came over just right after the debates and told me that Chris Wallace said that Hillary Clinton is the one people are voting for on the Democrats...
She made a comment as to Chris Wallace just announced Hillary was the winner of the POTUS so why should we even have an ‘election’...
The more I thought about that, the more I can see that this country is more stupid than I thought....and how many people hearing that are now going to stay home Nov 2016 because the election has already been decided.....
All due respect, he said Trump was not the biggest bas——, but one of ten.
Cruz really nailed his response to Kelly’s sneering question about God.
sorry, my mistake. It was semi-ballistic for someone with what it takes to be president, not Donald Trump. See the difference?
Yes, he did! I just wish he had been asked more questions. They really sidelined him.
It’s interesting the resistance your points have brought. I too was especially disappointed at his answer to his bankruptcies and the proof of the Mexican government sending their rapists here.
These aren’t legitimate questions? In what universe have I found myself in?
Was he asked smarmy “gotcha” questions too yes he was. He’s set himself up as a lighting rod of a candidate, at the center of controversey and apparently loving it. He should have handled the gotcha questions better too, probably something along the lines of how Newt took Wallace to the woodshed.
This is politics, he didn’t prepare well and it showed. I’m really surprised at all the FReepers who don’t seem to want to acknowledge this and move on to a real candidate. I’m starting to think another FReeper said it best: some apparently are so starved for revenge against the left they are willing to overlook much.
I’m not saying he’s done (although for me he probably is) but if people really support him they should be telling him the truth for his benefit: next time bring your A game.
Megyn put herself right up there with Candy Crowley. Sickening. Since when do these media people think it is their job to decide candidates for the Republicans?
She attacked Trump like a witch and then when he responded people say “oh Trump talked bad to her.”
Greta should be the moderator for females in the future.
