Representative Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the second-ranking Democrat in the House, said the tone was counterproductive.
Not Comfortable
Characterizing people who may be in opposition to the agreement as wanting to go to war as an alternative, Im not comfortable with that, and I wish the White House wouldnt do that, Hoyer, who is leading a visit of 22 Democratic House members to Israel this week, said in an interview in Jerusalem on Thursday. I dont think the alternatives are going to war, and Ive indicated that to the White House.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest dismissed complaints about Obamas characterization of the vote on the deal as a choice between diplomacy or war.
The president was pointing out a simple fact, he told reporters Thursday. If Congress does the unthinkable and kills the deal, the international coalition that supported sanctions would fall apart and Iran would go back to doing what they did before, he said. The opponents advocating killing the deal would leave military action as the only remaining option, according to Earnest.
The suggestion that there is a better deal is a fantasy, Earnest said.

Interesting....Hoyer sounds like he’s going to oppose the deal. Pelosi is for it. Could this be the first salvo in the race for House minority leader?
Iran signed the non proliferation treaty. This agreement only benefits Iran and all those countries that are chomping at the bit with trade agreements. Fools!!
Schummer has to decide if he wants to stay in politics...This is the vote that will make him or break him.
You won’t see this on CNN or any other of the Liberal spokesnetworks.
The fight between Republicans is covered, however.
Once you understand that 0dungo IS A REPRESENTATIVE OF IRAN, everything he says is easy to understand.
Shumer will vote with Obama if needed the vote but if his vote is worthless he will vote against it.
Except remember, Obama is basically Iran’s spokesperson on this.
Why is this entire issue up to Obama? Or the US Government?
If the Iranians want us to agree to an agreement, why don’t they go on TV and speak to the US citizenry. I’d like to know their understanding of the deal vs what Obama tells us. I’d like to know if they really believe in death to America. Why doesn’t the Head Mullah hold a press conference so we can ask questions of Iran? All we get from this end is lies...probably the same from that end as well, but our Congress at least should still have the right to speak directly to the Iranians. Nix to the secrecy.
I think the Dems in Congress are finally getting tired of the condescending snarky lectures.
And what would a better deal look like, considering that Europe and Russia and China and the UN are going with this deal and will be dropping sactions on Iran, if they haven't dropped them already?
Congress can vote down the deal but let's not kid ourself. The rest of the world is going ahead and our imposing sanctions alone, while it may be the right thing to do, isn't going to have much of an impact on Iran.
Vintage Obama.....if scaring the wheeeee out of them doesn’t work, go back to lying. Hoyer is a day late and a dollar short....too bad.
If the argument is that -”they’ll war with us if we don’t deal and capitulate...”, then a deal is clearly the wrong thing for the USA to be doing.
We now cave in to bullying by 3rd world goat sodomizers???
We all know the real enemy of Obama is not the Iranians, it’s the Tea Party. Been that way since 2010.
It will be war if Iran gets what they want. Israel will be forced to hit them.
Obama is wrong on everything.
As if Hoyer himself, being a liberal, doesn’t use lies and hyperbole as a normal course of action. LOL!
Hoyer had better make sure there aren’t any skeletons in his closet.
“By an amazing coincidence, Hoyer was swarmed by #BlackLivesMatter protestors the following day.”
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
