Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz said the the nine GOP presidential candidates who will take the debate stage Thursday with frontrunner Donald Trump will be wise not to take him on.
"Donald Trump is going to win any confrontation," Dershowitz said Tuesday on "CNN Tonight."
"He's a populist," Dershowitz said of Trump. "He doesn't have to worry about what he says."
Republican voters love the billionaire real estate developer because he doesn't have speechwriters, and anyone who takes him on is going to lose, Dershowitz said.

Yup. Cruz > Trump intellectually. But both are >> the rest, and they have clearly formed an alliance.
Excuse me for living.
Dershovitz is making a valid point about Trump being a populist and .. populist candidates often can attract considerable support just for being populist in orientation an sounding the part (regardless of specific policies or details)
On the other hand, Cruz debates very well (albeit more intellectually and fact-oriented ... meaning he cannot quire connect as well as a capable populist speaker to some significant portion of the American electorate).
Alan D is an extremely bright and usually very honest and perceptive man, regardless of his generally liberal viewpoints he is well worth listening to most of the time.
But then again, he has a brain whereas many liberals do not demonstrate any such anatomical feature.
And he seeks to persuade us, not enslave us or rule over us.
I still think Cruz can hold his own and that perhaps Huckabee can connect on a somewhat different populist level as Trump, but still connect with a big part of an audience in a populist sort of way.
As can Sarah Palin, if she were there
100% !
A Cruz Trump ticket would make hitlary fill those incontinental underpantsuits.
Sorry, didn’t mean to offend. Just pointing out how wacky everyone seems to be getting IMHO with Trump in the Race.
Let me ask since you brought it up, what “deal” could Priebus possibly bring to Trump to make him drop out?
Serious question. I couldn’t think of a one.
Your Observation about RINO GHW Bush was spot on though. Even Reagan had to play the game at the Convention.
I actually thought at first that you were just kidding with that comment but there wasn’t a Sarc/ tag to be had.
We are all FRiends here and we disagree like any group of People, so please don’t take what I said personally. It was just an observation on the current state of affairs.
Again, my apologies.
Was this put out by the Bush campaign? Hillary?
I hope they didn't hurt the Lyon.☺
You don't have to like Dershowitz but he's right. Trump is going to dominate Thursday's debates. No one else is going to get a word in. Come Friday morning, his polling numbers will be even higher.
The other nine guys might as well not even show up. At least the bottom tier will have their own debate to get their points across.
Trump never needs to speak whole sentences. He only hires subordinates who can understand what Trump is saying from the first 2 words uttered.
Why do you think next 100 generations will inherit $100 Million EACH?
Mr. Trump doesnt hit first.
Can’t win a battle that way...
A Time to hit first, a time to not hit first..
Knowing the difference WINS!..
As with the contest so far, the debate isnt going to be won on technical points.
Debates are won on emotional points.. stabbed to the heart..
STABBED as defensive.. with humor.. truthfully..
with good timing..
Trump has actually complimented Cruz as one of the only elected official in Congress to stand up and follow through om eliminating Obama Cruz and doing what he said he would do.
Cruz has complimented Trump as a real populist and a man of accomplishment.
Cruz and Trump seem to have a mutual respect for each other
LOL! For the whole 30 seconds Cruz is speaking on camera, he'll be agreeing with everything Trump says.
Trump is a counter puncher. I don’t expect Cruz to throw any punches his way.
Trump is not Cruz’s enemy.... “so far”...
Trump’s Rope-a-dope will not win... with republicans..
but democrats speak rope-a-dope.. should gain some..
Yup. Cruz > Trump intellectually. But both are >> the rest, and they have clearly formed an alliance.
Can you believe Megyn Kelly asked Cruz have you got a backroom deal with Trump?.. LoL..
And expected Cruz.. to say YEAH.. we’re conniving together?...
What a twit.. a pretty twit but dumb as a donkey..
LOL! For the whole 30 seconds Cruz is speaking on camera, he’ll be agreeing with everything Trump says.
Most all of what Trump says....
Cruz has been ....DOING.... before Trump even became a republican..
(if in fact he is)..
No she’s not “dumb as a donkey” .. that’s part of the problem .. she’s smart and well-educated.
People are ignoring the fact she has a BOSS .. and they are definitely on a mission against Cruz.
And .. if that’s the game FOX wants to play .. they have no clue what’s really going on in America.
No shes not dumb as a donkey .. thats part of the problem .. shes smart and well-educated.
I disagree... I’ve heard her speak many times...
She flutters around the truth but never actually “gets it”..
She trys to be “fair”.... which is a mistake..
The democrats play WAR.... for keeps.. she wants to be “lady-like”.. fair and gentle..
Even when she’s comes on hard.. it’s not hard enough..
She would “NEVER” use the words communist or socialist.. or traitor, sedition or espionage..
When is been going on all around her.. would be her job..
The RINO O’Really would have her ass..
True; gets mostly bull sperm stories as all FOX people do..
The real stuff usually gets “spiked”.. I’ll give her that..
Doesn't matter. Trump's the guy in the news. Cruz isn't. Senator Cruz barely made the cut. He'll probably field a single question during the debates. Trump will answer half of them.
Fox wants ratings. That means face time for Trump.
