Rupert Murdoch Changes Tune on Trump Ahead of Fox Debate
mediaite.com ^ | 8/03/2015 | Matt Wilstein

Posted on 08/03/2015 10:36:39 AM PDT by GoneSalt

Apparently a lot can change in two weeks. With the first Republican presidential debate of the 2016 cycle set to air on Fox News Thursday night, Rupert Murdoch used his prolific Twitter account to offer up this bit of political analysis over the weekend:

Fox Thursday debate vital for all candidates. If Trump gets thru unscathed it will be big win. Time for all to understand his support. — Rupert Murdoch (@rupertmurdoch) August 2, 2015

That is far cry from the sentiment Murdoch put forward about Donald Trump two weekends earlier:

When is Donald Trump going to stop embarrassing his friends, let alone the whole country? — Rupert Murdoch (@rupertmurdoch) July 19, 2015

Is the 21st Century Fox chairman merely trying to hype up the importance of his network’s primetime event or has his mind really been changed when it comes to Trump’s candidacy?

A follow-up tweet on Sunday showed that he is far from counting out the more realistic candidates who currently trail Trump in the polls:

Rupert Murdoch ✔@rupertmurdoch New WSJ poll shows Walker, Bush in strong place. Interesting to see first poll after first debate. 11:02 AM - 2 Aug 2015

Murdoch’s right about one thing, it will be “interesting” to see if Thursday’s debate strengthens or diminishes Trump’s increasingly strong support among potential Republican voters.

Ted is an umpire without a team. He may be a good guy...but I'm looking at actual accomplishments.

He's a good debater and walking lawbook.....but something is missing...

I think he'll make a fine AG.

Of course not. Rupert was talking to the media. It sounds like he’s signaling not to take Trump serious unless he survives the debate, and then they better start taking him serious or they are going to look irrelevant.

He only cares about ratings...so your answer is YES!

Ha ha....that’s probably what he dislikes MOST about Trump....that Trump says “send them back, no citizenship”.

Brit Hume is their top guy and he Disses Trump all the time, and none of them even mention Cruz.

They have Rove the Jeb shill, and they seem to pump Walker,
Jeb and Rubio (boobio). Even Paul isn’t given much coverage.

Understanding limited time and many candidates, one would think a fair amount of coverage on positions of the top 5 would be in the weekly show.

One thing if your Trump and Cruz, its not been fair and balanced. Hume is unmasked as the ABC reporter, not a conservative. And at least for Me I see a little of the Mondale in The Kraut.

I have given up Fox News Sunday. It used to be just Juan I hit the Mute Button on. Now I just don’t care for the show.

Mr. Trump is going to get a lot more respect.

The NH focus group revealed a real threat to the DC Marxist globalist cartel.

Trump is making a deal with the American people.

Fox hosts ALL seem to be clamoring over having Trump on their shows. Ratings numbers matter :) He is THE hot ticket, right now.

I imagine Rupert has Megyn working on her “gotcha” questions, as we post.

Only one on that stage that understands Trump is Cruz—who is a great debater. I believe it will prove nothing—but be great TV. Murdoch took some heat on his Anti-Trump Fatwa. Lets hope Megyn Kelly gets the Memo and doesn’t ask questions like: “When did your last rape your wife?” or “Why do you hate women who use a brest pump?” or “Isn’t it true your really a Democrat trying to elect Hillary?” We shall see—but it will be a dump on Trump night—the goal—make Trump mad so he will mis-speak. (The McCain thing was when Trump was Mad). Will it work? Hard to say.

It wasn’t a change of heart for Murdock is was a warning to Trump. If he gets through “unscathed” which is code for FOX is gunning for Trump Thursday night, and the panel has been instructed to take him out

Under no circumstances will I vote for Bush though.

For me the same goes for 90% of the GOP-e and 100% of the dems. There's really only a couple conservatives in the race. The others are all light weight, big govt statist rinos like Bush. For conservatives our choices are quite limited in this field.

One thing Trump does that kinda reminds me of Reagan. Like Reagan was, Trump is not afraid to tell it like it is.

Trump could have predicted this. As soon as he is shown not to be a fluke, the establishment will be flocking to him trying to wield their influence. IF he holds up against that, we have a real candidate.

7:00. Greta pictured with trump at Billy Graham’s last sermon. Both active in Samaritans Purse
8:00 O’Really. Pictured with Trump at sports events. Admits to being friends and talking on phone
9:00 Megan Kelly (hates Rove) Moderator of debates Suppose to balance out Hannity and O Really
10:00 Hannity. An admitted Trump supporter and dissatisfaction with GOPee

Xxxxxx

Since this is the evening lineup and the highest rated on cable. Trump has some friendly backers except Kelly who is the only one assigned negative coverage by those who assign stories at editorial staff meetings.
