The identities of the 10 Republicans likely to be on stage at Thursdays presidential debate are coming into focus after another poll on Monday shows Donald Trump running away from the rest of the field and Rick Perry lagging behind his competitors for the final spot.
A new Monmouth University poll has Trump at 26 percent, easily topping his competitors. The next-closest candidates former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker are at 12 percent and 11 percent, respectively.
Both the new Monmouth survey and an average of the five most-recent live-caller polls Fox News criteria for whittling the list of Republicans down to 10 candidates for Thursday nights debate reinforce the tiers that have developed since Trump upended the race by surging to the top

Very well thought out and written. Those who wait for the "perfect candidate" will be waiting a long time.
Amen and bump to your well stated post. I think there are MANY, all across the fruited plains, who also agree with your every word.
Thanks.
How I loathe those two arrogant misfits.

See new tagline.
He cannot lose because we cannot afford to lose. Our culture, our country, our morality, our lives...hang in the balance.
We must win.
I love the idea of reducing the budget and my and all our taxes, but where would you cut to get us to $800 billion when the full (not base) military budget is almost $600 billion. Here are some useful graphs for people who want to tackle this challenge.

“military budget”
Two things.
One, the feds shouldn’t have a lot more than the military since defending our country is basically their only job.
Two, do you know how much of that $600 billion is waste? Probably if they cut the waste and then modernized our military to the best in the world like Reagan did, it would probably be a wash.
So the balance of $200 billion - necessary for what constitutionally authorized activities of the feds? Not welfare, not social security, not socialized medical insurance in its various forms. To be constitutional, most of the cabinet, bureaucratic departments, and Administrative State regulatory agencies MUST GO. PHASE them OUT.
Should it happen? Yes. Could it happen? Yes. Will it happen. Not without a miracle. Your biggest problems are the portion of the public that’s become addicted AS PLANNED to government dependency and, of course, the near impossibility of sending home packing your hundreds of thousands of government workers, bureaucratic heads, and officials without a job.
Not a pretty picture but might as well be realistic about the problem - keeps us from false solutions and hopefully helps gain insight into how to chip away at this thing.
The “debates “ are OVER. Trump is the victor. It was over a week ago when he pulled ahead in Florida and Hew Hampshire . It was over when the establisnment hijacked the primaries with “Winner take all” Today he is ahead of Fatty Arbuckle in New Jersey by two to one. Hillary is a criminal and Trump will win easy but the biggest loser is the republicrat establishment. I really expect them to try a third party. Watch.
“Maybe Trump bought all the ad time during the debate, wouldnt surprise me a bit.”
That would be hilarious!
I hate to have to say it, but after 45 years of paying into Social Security, I am rather “addicted” to receiving the money I paid in all those years in the form of Social Security. I suspect that even a number of other FReepers might feel the same.
Regarding military waste—It is my understanding that because of the sequestor, the military and other agencies had to make across the board reductions. Thus they cannot get rid of wasteful programs, the can only reduce the amount of money that continues to be wasted. This is stupid and the GOP has the bulk of responsibility.
Hence the “phase out.”
The feds have ripped us all off. Better to kill the beast than to let it continue to grow and kill us.
They’re basically tied for 4th place, since Walker could still be counted as 3rd.
Unless you count Bush and Walker as tied for 2nd.
If the gopE allows Trump to be the nominee they’ll do everything they can to make sure he loses. He’d probably have a better chance to run on a third party ticket.
I hear the Trump a comin’
It’s rolling round the bend
And I ain’t seen Hilliary since I don’t know when
I’m stuck in Rino prison, and time keeps draggin’ on
But that Trump keeps a rollin’ on down to Washington
When I was just a baby my mama told me. Son, Always be a good boy, don’t ever play with Juan.
But I destroyed Hilliary in the debates just to watch her die
When I hear that Trump a’blowing, I raise my voice and shout GOPe, you lie!
