The renewed national scrutiny of the Confederate flag has officials again considering changing the name of Utahs Negro Bill Canyon, though the title that some find offensive is a point of historical pride for others.
Grand County Councilwoman Mary McGann said the name of the picturesque canyon in southern Utah is outdated at best.
We should evolve, she said Wednesday.

The want the white man’s history influence niggated...: )
Negro’ in Spanish....means black.
So, what’s the problem? They don’t like the word negro/black?
Seems to me the negro/black community for decades embraced the word negro. In fact, many address themselves and or friends with the ..igger name.
I realize this skirts the ol PC line, but damn, someone has got to say it like it is.
It’s uppity time at the NAACLP
they have about another year to be uppity and get all the Amish goals accomplished.
Change it to ‘Ronald Reagan Canyon’. They’d have a fit... :-)
OK, let’s rename it:
Jamichael Canyon
-or-
Késhaun Canyon
-or-
Qua’sean Canyon
>>Maryland changed one place to Negro Mountain and another to Polish Mountain.
When did they do that? Polish Mountain has been Polish Mountain since my grandmother was born there in 1908.
Evolve = Reprogram
N****r Bill Canyon?
African-American Willy Chasm?
“the NAACP has appointed a committee to look into all the names of every park, street, urinal, etc.”
The urinals already have a permanent name. They are called Hanoi Jane Fondas.
You left out ‘Afro-American’
Someone please tell Mary we are devolving. What a dumb ass.
Jeanetta Williams, president of the Salt Lake City chapter of the NAACP, says the name isn't offensive. She's drumming up support to keep the name that makes it clear the canyon is named for a black historical figure.
Incorrect title. NAACP actually wants to keep the name.
To prevent duplication, please do not alter the published headline, thx.

But a lower percentage than in previous years. Last night I was shopping in a grocery store and easily half of the other shoppers were Hispanic. Most of those I heard speaking were using Spanish.
Boy, we sure get a lot of tourists...
I hear the "N" word a lot when I go out to the mall or just stopping at the store and there will be a black teenager or twenty-something with his radio on blasting out at 100 decibels some rap song where literally every 5 seconds they say the "N" word.
These people aren't offended by it. They want to call each other "Nigger" all day long. It is an endearing term as long as it is coming either from a black person or a white college professor who pretends to be black.
Negro Bill Jamal or La Darius Canyon?
