A father shot was arrested after shooting down an $1,800 drone that was hovering over his sunbathing daughter.

William H. Merideth, 47, from Kentucky was charged with first degree criminal mischief and first-degree wanton endangerment.

The owner of the drone claims he was only trying to take pictures of a friend's house, when Merideth shot at the device, sending it crashing into a field near his yard last weekend.

I swear that there was at least one time I’ve seen that on Ammotogo.com’s specialty shotgun ammo page. A net in a shotgun shell.

“I would looked around to find the operator and shot him!”

I don’t know about shooting him, but kicking the shit out of him might be an option. If you’re going to get in trouble anyway, you might as well make it at least worth your while.

Yeah, it could be a city-wide conspiracy. Or the owner could actually not be a peeping tom.

Perhaps not a peeping tom.

But Sunbathing daughter + hovering drone with camera is a pretty good indication.

If I were on a jury, and can’t think of a single piece of compelling explanation about a male operating a camera equipped drone that comes to a hover over my sunbathing daughter that would satisfy me.

Probably my lack of imagination...:)

He did use a shotgun. Doubt it was a .410 though. Seems life the drone operator was just as wreckless and should have been arrested also.

“... a similar story... a drone flying within 100 feet of a passenger plane..”

The FAA seems to refuse to come up with some guidelines and IMHO.. it is only a matter of time that a drone takes down a medivac helicopter or a plane. Too many reports mention drones in areas where big events occur like forest fires, big accident scenes etc... where police/medical helicopters/planes/etc.. are on the scene. I hope I’m wrong..

The use of a shotgun and threats to use his sidearm is what got this guy in trouble. I see a market for interceptor drones. Tit~for~tat.

you are probably correct, but .410 are not at hand in every house

you have however developed a marketing concept

Someone needs to invent a shotgun shell net that can trap a drone and bring it down intact.

Hmm, 12 split shot fishing sinkers clamped onto six pieces of spectra fishing line about five feet long, all tied in the middle in a snowflake shape. Shove it all in a wad and fire. That would be easy to try except there are currently no drones around here. I wonder if a magpie or blackbird would consent to a test?

All drones should be outlawed except the military. Even should not be used by the police.

The police love the idea of using drones to peep ,too!!!!!
Albeit ,only to catch criminals.

No need for pesky warrants when you can just buzz the ol’ drone up to the windows. Also good for making sure there isn’t an unapproved doghouse or clothesline in the backyard.

Ogling female sunbathing outside or watching through a bedroom or bathroom window is just a operator perk!

Drones are a huge privacy threat if misused.

There’s a problem with them at airports, along with lasers.

Google street view with those elevated car cameras peered over fences and recorded views that a ordinary pedestrian or driver COULD NOT have viewed.

I think the laws should classify any artificially enhanced view view of your property as trespass.
